Volume 2 Chapter 37 The Villainous Guildmaster, Bringing Home the Good-for-Nothing Dog
After getting the key from Transcendent, I head to collect the useless dog, Frederica.
The place Transcendent, Amou, pointed to was the back entrance of a building.
I walked away from the mansion for a while.
Soon, I arrived at a corner of the dungeon.
"......"
An icy world spread out before me.
Thick ice surrounded everything.
Everywhere, dungeon monsters were frozen in ice.
"...What a MESS."
At the back of the room, there was a column of ice, and I felt Frederica's presence coming from it.
Probably, the cold air she gave off made the dungeon and the monsters in it freeze.
'Why did you come here...?'
I hear Frederica's voice.
It seems she's inside that ice column.
"We're going HOME."
'No!'
"What are you sulking about?"
'Hmph. You care more about your Hero than me. You leave me all alone!'
Looks like she's really upset that I didn't pay her enough attention.
'If you want to go home, go alone. I absolutely do not plan to go home!'
She's such a troublesome woman.
'Let me warn you, I recommend not entering this room. Look at the frozen monsters around you, right? If you step in, even Master will be frozen.'
I take a step inside.
In that moment, my shoe sole freezes.
I force it off and move forward.
I go straight to Frederica.
The cold tries to freeze my skin and eyes.
But I won't STOP.
Eventually, I reach Frederica.
'...Why didn't you leave? You were warned about freezing!'
"That's not a reason to leave you behind."
I touch the ice column.
In that moment, the column shatters into pieces.
Frederica, in a maid outfit, kneels down in front of me.
"As expected of you, Master. You saw that I had no intention of hurting you."
The divine wolf (Fenrir) can control ice freely.
I could tell she wasn't hostile without using my Appraisal Eye.
In other words, she was testing me.
She wanted to know if I would bring her back, even if it meant risking my own safety.
"I'm so happy, Master. You care about me this MUCH."
With dog ears and a tail, he wags it happily.
"If you want me so passionately, I guess I have no choice but to go back with you!"
The now cheerful dog hugs my arm, tail wagging.
"Let's go HOME."
"Yes!♡"
I head back to the Transcendent mansion with Frederica.
"Oh? Frederica, are you feeling better now?"
Amou looks at us while lounging around.
"Yeah! Master was so lonely without me that he cried and begged me to come back. Hehe, what can I do?♡"
"I never said THAT!"
Frederica pokes my cheek with a teasing look.
"You're so SHY!♡"
"Stop wasting my time. Seriously..."
I glance toward the corner of the room.
"Ugh..."
Vivre is lying on the ground, looking dizzy.
"Amou, what did you do to her?"
"I just raised her potential ability and gave her a little lecture on how to use her power."
"What do you mean 'a LITTLE'!?"
Suddenly, Vivre jumps up and runs behind me.
"Mr. Act! This guy is CRAZY! Way worse than you!"
She points at Amou while crying.
"Really? I just made the mansion like a different world and trained her for about 10,000 YEARS."
"Ten thousand years! I thought I was going insane!"
Thanks to that, though, Vivre seemed to have leveled up quite a bit.
"Sorry for the trouble."
"No worries. Your student is like my student now."
Amou smiles.
"Vivre, you have great talent! Just like the gem that Act found. How about training seriously with me?"
"Noooooo!"
Vivre hugs me and says,
"Mr. Act is way better, like TEN THOUSAND times better!"
"Is that so? What a shame."
I look at Vivre and Frederica, then at Amou.
"See you."
"Yeah. Good LUCK!"
I turn around and leave the room.
"Frederica."
"...What is it?"
Amou squints their eyes happily and says,
"You're lucky. You get to serve a kind master."
Frederica snorts at her former master.
"...Hmph. I don't need you to tell me. My master is the kindest, the best person in the world!"
And so, I collected my silly dog and returned to the surface.
