I had come deep underground to meet the Transcendent.
"That person... is Mr. Act's TEACHER?"
"That's right, Little Demon Dragon. I'M AMOU. Nice to meet you♡"
Lying on a mountain of books, Amou says cheerfully.
Looks about early teens.
Hair so long it touches the feet — can't tell if boy or girl.
Wearing a white dress makes it even harder to guess.
"H-how do you know ME...?"
"Because I'm the Transcendent, SILLY. I know everything♡"
Vivre was completely shrinking back from Amou.
"Where's the mutt?"
"Now now Act. We're meeting after 10 years — let's TALK more!"
"You've been watching me through that mutt, haven't you?"
"Oh? You noticed? So SHARP~"
The Divine Wolf Frederica was originally this Transcendent's monster.
I just inherited it.
I knew Frederica got magic power from this guy.
Probably spied on us through the magic connection.
"But really Lord Act, you've grown so much in 10 years! Built a Guild from nothing, now S-Class #2. And your Lawrence party is closest to killing the Demon King — the whole world's watching you now. Makes this teacher PROUD!"
"Too long."
I sighed and said.
"Come on! I've been BORED. Chat with me a bit!"
"No time for small talk."
"So cold~ Special offer! I'll tell you how to beat the DEMON KING~"
"Wha!? S-seriously!?"
Vivre bit at Amou's offer.
"You know HOW!?"
"Of course. I told you, I know everything."
"Oh, Act-san... let me learn from you-ssu!"
But I shake my head and say,
"I don't NEED to."
"Huh!? Why...?"
"We don't need to hear from him. Lawrence and the others will defeat the Demon King."
I look directly into Amou's eyes and say,
Their eyes meet mine with a gasp.
"You trust Lawrence and your own men to defeat the Demon KING."
"Of course. That's why I trained them."
There is a moment of silence.
Amou smiles happily.
"You really are AMAZING, Act."
"Huh? Wha-what do you mean?"
"From the start, Amou had no intention of teaching me how to defeat the Demon King. They were planning to give FALSE information."
"Eh, really!?"
With a gleam in their eye, Amou answers with a smile.
"Because, isn't it more FUN that way?"
"Fun..."
Transcendent looks down at us.
"You see, I'm BORED. I've been closed up underground for a long time, and I'm hungry for entertainment. Watching you humans fight the Demon King is a great way to pass the time."
"Please enjoy being TRICKED too..."
"Well, thanks to Act, you weren't tricked. Vivre, you should thank him."
Transcendent snaps their fingers.
The door behind us opens with a LOUD noise.
"Frederica is in the back of that room. I shouldn't have kept her."
"Yeah."
Vivre and I walk past Amou.
"Act."
They throw something at me with a whoosh.
I catch it and open my hand to find... a single key.
"A key? What's this key FOR...?"
"It's a hint to defeat the Demon King. Use it well."
I glance at Amou.
"You weren't going to give me a hint?"
"I wanted to purely support you... the way you move forward without relying on others, trusting only your own eyes and your men's strength."
It seems they have no ill intentions.
"I'll take it."
"That's good. Oh, Vivre, come here for a second."
Amou waves their hand to call her over.
"Wh-what is it...?"
"Frederica won't meet anyone but Act, right? You'll be bored waiting. Let me boost your HIDDEN ABILITY."
"Uh, um... you're kinda scary, so I don't want to get CLOSE..."
"Oh, I see. But you're the weakest in the party, and you'll die like this, you know?"
"PLEASE BOOST ME! I'M BEGGING YOU!"
Demon Dragon (Vivre) is left to Amou, while I go to catch the dog.
