Suigetsu opened her eyes wide and used a water shield to bash in the wrong direction.
'Ugggghhhhh! Noooooo!'
The ape flew off at super speed.
'Why!? You shouldn't be able to see meee!?'
"I turned the water into mist, spread it around, and detected you-degozaru!"
She jumped ahead faster than the jumping enemy.
Now, she batted the enemy away with her shield.
The ape shot into the air like a ball.
And... bam!
He jumped up.
"I will not look down anymore! Together with Lord Lawrence, I will cut down the evil spirit!"
The water magic in her hand focused into one point.
A super compressed blade of water shot from Suigetsu.
Swoosh!
With that sound, the Duke-level demon's head was cut off in one blow.
'No way... You killed an advanced demon... in one hit... What are you... a Hero?'
The ape collapsed to the ground.
Suigetsu landed gracefully before her and shook her head.
"I am not a Hero. I am Suigetsu, a Magic Knight of the Lawrence Hero Party! This sword and shield are to protect my friends and the peace of the people!"
Suigetsu easily defeated the enemy she couldn't beat.
Higami felt even more defeated inside.
Losing to Lawrence was okay.
It was easy to say no human can beat such a monster.
But losing to Suigetsu... was unacceptable.
She couldn't accept that someone she looked down on and banished was stronger than her.
But now, with Suigetsu winning against the demon she lost to, the strength ranking was clear.
"I... give up... I'm done..."
Crying like a child, Higami said.
"I'm done being a Hero!"
Just then...
"Not yet. It's too early to give up."
When Higami turned around, there stood Guildmaster Act Age in the darkness.
"What do you want...?"
"It's a waste to give up here. You have an amazing talent."
"...I don't have that."
Higami's pride is shattered, and she whispers weakly.
"I lost to a demon... Suigetsu beat it. That shows everything. My talent is that low."
Higami sits cross-legged, burying her face in her knees.
Meanwhile, Act looks down at her and snorts.
"Fool."
"...What did you say?"
"It's foolish to decide your limit after losing a few times."
"W-What... are you mocking me?"
"Yes, I am. You're a big fool."
Act looks straight into Higami's eyes.
She realizes.
Act's eyes are not looking down on her or mocking her.
"You haven't even tried hard, so why are you sad? That's what people who put in real effort say. You, who's lazy and not serious, have no right to complain."
Act was right.
She had never tried hard until now.
"Lawrence didn't just have talent; he worked hard too. That's why he's so strong, unlike you who relied on talent."
"Y-You say whatever you want...!"
Anger surged, and she stood up.
"I-I can do it! If I just try!"
"That's right, Lady Higami!"
Suigetsu, finished with his task, approaches.
"Lady Higami got here without effort. This means if you try, you can become even stronger!"
Suigetsu grabs Higami's hand tightly.
"Let's work hard together!"
"Do you... really not dislike me? Since I banished you..."
"Not at all! It was true I was useless back then. I was a coward!"
But she had become strong.
She could defeat that demon by herself.
Higami sees that Suigetsu's hands are tough and rough.
She must have worked hard even after being kicked out.
"Of course. No human becomes strong just by talent."
Higami turns around, and Act says calmly:
"Everyone has a unique talent from the heavens. Talent is equal. Those who work harder than anyone else are called geniuses."
...It's frustrating, but she has to admit it.
Higami closes her eyes and nods.
"I understand. I will follow you."
She looks at Suigetsu and Act.
"Teach me how to work hard too!"
"Of course! Let's do our best together!"
So, the Eastern Hero Party decided to join the Lawrence Hero Party.
