Volume 2 Chapter 15 Oni Sisters Visit the Rumored Villainous Guildmaster III
The Oni sisters joined Act's guild, Gem of Heavenly Gift.
Older sister, Kasumi, had finished her skill training and was in the midst of field training.
One day...
"Oh man, sorry, Kasumi. We messed up the quest."
Guild members returned to the guild hall from the dungeon.
"It was tougher than we expected."
"No, it's my fault. I didn't notice the Monster Parade."
From time to time, monster movements would become more active, and they would gather in groups.
This was called a Monster Parade.
Kasumi's party had encountered a parade and had to abandon the quest.
"We're going to get YELLED at by the Guildmaster."
"He gets QUIET when he's angry, which is scarier, you know?"
Guild members sighed.
He really was a bit scary.
"Alright, let's get our injuries treated first. Everyone, to the infirmary!"
The guild had dedicated staff to heal injuries.
Guild members could receive free treatment.
"Uh, actually, I'm fine. My injuries aren't that bad."
The rogue rarely engaged in combat.
This request had only resulted in a few scratches.
She only had a bandage on her arm; it wasn't a big deal.
"I'll report the failed quest."
"But... Kasumi, at least go to the infirmary first..."
"I'm fine, really. Besides, I've been putting a burden on everyone, so I can handle this much!"
Saying that, Kasumi headed to the reception desk alone.
* * *
"Oh, Kasumi. What's wrong?"
"Ms. Katrina... and Guildmaster?"
Act was at the first-floor reception with Katrina for a matter.
Act saw Kasumi and... his eyes widened.
"Hey, you! What are you doing?"
"Huu..., I'm sorry. I actually failed the quest...."
I thought I'd be scolded for failing... right then.
"Head to the infirmary at once."
"Huh...?"
Act reached out, yanking Kasumi's arm.
Glaring at the bandage wrapped around her right forearm... she let out a sigh of relief.
"What if it was a delayed-action poison?"
"Ah, it's alright... it's just a scratch."
But Act's expression was stern.
"How can you be so certain it's just a scratch? Are you a thief, familiar with injuries and abnormal conditions?"
"No... I mean, yes, but..."
"Amateurish judgment. What if it actually was poison? What would you have done if it was a curse?"
"I-I'm sorry..."
Snorting, Act made a noise through his nose.
"Hurry to the infirmary."
"Y-yes. ...Um, about failing the quest..."
"That doesn't matter."
"It doesn't matter?"
Act glared at her irritably.
"I-I'm sorry! I'll go to the infirmary right now!"
* * *
Kasumi went to the infirmary and had the medical staff examine her injury.
"It's okay, just a scratch. You're lucky♡"
The medical staff member, Chocolade, said with a smile.
"As always, Senior Choco has such big boobs, it's both sexy and beautiful~..."
The Guild Members looked at Chocolade with admiring expressions.
Her ample bust, peeping out from an open-necked shirt, paired with a tight black skirt.
Dressed in white and smiling, she truly looked like an angel in a lab coat.
"Come on, everyone. It's not fair. This is the first time Kasumi has failed a request, and if we don't take her to the infirmary first, the Guildmaster will be angry, won't he?"
"Y-yes, I'm sorry..."
Kasumi's eyes went round.
"Sorry, Kasumi. Did you get scolded?"
"Ah, no! It was my mistake for making a rash decision. ...Um, can I ask something?"
Kasumi asked the Guild Members about something that had been on her mind.
"Even though I failed the request, Mr. Act didn't get angry about it. It's strange, isn't it?"
But the Guild Members just exchanged glances and chuckled.
"Ah, right, Kasumi is still new, isn't she?"
"You know, even if that person fails a quest, they never get irrationally angry about it."
"Oh, they don't...? Why not?"
The party leader said with a knowing smile.
"He cares more about whether we're hurt than the success of the request. That's his top priority."
"B-but... doesn't failing lower the Guild's credibility...?"
The Guildmaster is the head of the Guild.
To fail a request is the same as tarnishing the organization's trust and spitting in the Guildmaster's face, right?
"Look, even if we lowly members get a bit of mud on us, it doesn't hurt him at all. Compared to the incredible things he's accomplished, our failures are just trivial."
The leader said this with a genuinely happy smile.
"That guy cares about us a lot. He respects us as individuals, not just as disposable pawns."
Everyone in the Guild nodded along with a chorus of agreement.
"He gets really mad if we come back even just a bit injured."
"It's so exaggerated!"
"But... that just means he's worried about us, right?"
All the Guild members were smiling.
Kasumi thought they must really trust Act that much.
"Kasumi!"
Chocolade smiled as she came over with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.
"Don't hold any grudges against the Guildmaster, okay? He wasn't upset because the request failed. He was angry because you didn't take your injuries seriously."
...Caring more about the well-being of Guild members than the Guild's reputation.
"Is there really a Guildmaster like that in this world?"
Then, including Chocolade, all the Guild members nodded with bright smiles.
"That's our incredible Guildmaster, Act Age!"
* * *
After receiving treatment from Chocolade, Kasumi visited the Guildmaster's room.
"Excuse me..."
"Ah! BIG SISTER!"
Sitting on the sofa set was her younger sister, Kanaho.
"Kanaho, what are you doing here?"
"I was studying with the Guildmaster! It's super tough!"
Looking across the table, Kasumi spotted Act sitting there.
As she approached, she lowered her head.
"I'm sorry, Guildmaster."
"How's the injury?"
"Dr. Choco said it's nothing serious, so don't worry."
"I see."
Act sipped his coffee without changing his expression.
"BIG SIS! YOU'VE GOT BANDAGES ON! W-WHAT HAPPENED?!"
Kanaho stood next to her, eyes wide and shouting.
"Oh, I just got bitten by a monster."
"Wow! Th-THAT'S TERRIBLE...! Does it hurt? DOES IT?"
"I'm fine! You're making a big fuss over nothing..."
But...
"Sniff... Big sis, I'm so glad you're okay... WAAAAH..."
Kanaho began to cry.
At that moment, Kasumi finally realized her serious mistake.
"Ah..."
That's right.
I was, WRONG.
Nothing serious about the injury?
Don't joke around.
What if that injury got worse and I... died?
If I died, leaving my little sister all alone...?
...Who would protect her?
"I'm sorry, Guildmaster. I was mistaken."
He must have known this all along.
We don't have parents.
If I, as the older sister, were to die, my little sister would be left with no one.
So I need to take care of myself more than anyone else.
"My body isn't just mine. I didn't understand that. I was being naive... I'm sorry."
Finally, Kasumi understood the reason for Act's anger.
At the same time, she was struck by how kind-hearted he was.
"That's fine. Just be more careful next time."
"Yes!"
"You can step down now."
"Excuse me!"
Kasumi took Kanaho and exited the room.
"Kanaho, I'm sorry."
"? W-WATCH YOURSELF NEXT TIME!"
Kanaho was mimicking the Guildmaster.
It was so endearing, Kasumi couldn't help but scoop her up.
"Big sis, your face is all red! Did something happen?"
"Huh, huh, really? Is it?"
"Oh my, sounds like LOVE IS IN THE AIR~"
"N-NO! THAT'S NOT IT!"
Even as she said that, Kasumi glanced over her shoulder, sending a heated gaze toward the Guildmaster across the room.
"...The BEST Guildmaster, huh?"
And in that moment, Kasumi couldn't help but feel that the words of her fellow Guild Members weren't wrong at all.
