Volume 2 Chapter 13 Oni Sisters Visit the Rumored Villainous Guildmaster I
On a rainy day, at the Adventurers Guild [Gem of Heavenly Gift], managed by Act Age.
Early morning.
Two young sisters were standing in front of the Guild.
Both of them had distinctive pale green hair.
The older sister was 15, and the younger was only 5.
"Big sis... don't we NEED to go in?"
"Yeah... but I'm a little SCARED."
"Scared? WHY?"
"...They say the Guildmaster here is super capable, but also super scary... sigh, I'm so scared."
The older sister crouched down on the spot.
Both of them were wrapped in ragged cloths, covering their heads.
"Is he SCARY?"
"Apparently, people call him the Villainous Guildmaster."
"Villainous?"
"Well, like... a terrifying Oni, I guess?"
The older sister answered hesitantly, as if she wasn't quite sure herself.
"Oni? Like US? Then it's not scary!"
"Y-yeah... sigh."
The Oni are a type of demi-human that exists in this world.
They have one or two horns on their foreheads.
While they're grouped with other demi-humans like Elves and Dwarves, long ago, the Oni were feared as [Man-Eating Onis].
In fact, in ancient times, male Oni were terrifying monsters that ate humans.
But that was a long, long time ago, and there are no Oni who eat humans now.
Even so, the bad image of the Oni hasn't been erased, and they're still looked at with suspicion everywhere they go.
"If we can't find WORK here, we're out of options..."
These sisters had their hometown destroyed by monsters.
Their parents died in the attack, and the surviving sisters came here looking for work.

A black-haired man holding an umbrella was standing next to the sisters.
"You're in the WAY."

The older sister bowed her head repeatedly.
"Do you have BUSINESS with this Guild?"
The man stared at the sisters.
He had strangely golden eyes.
"Ah, um... that is, it's NOTHING... heh, hehehe."
Having been soaked in the rain for so long, the elder sister had sneezed.
The younger sister, shivering and quivering, clung to her sister's body.
"S-sorry... I'll do it OVER..."
"What are you SAYING?"
"Huh?"
"You must have BUSINESS with the Guild? Come INSIDE."
The elder sister widened her eyes and tilted her head.
"Wh-WHY...?"
"Don't just stand there dazed. Hurry in. You don't want to catch a cold."
"Y-YES..."
The sisters followed the young man inside.
"What are your NAMES?"
"Ah, um, I'm Kasumi. My sister is Kanaho."
"Kasumi and Kanaho, what unusual names."
"Y-yes, we get told that a LOT..."
Kasumi thought that if they were found out to be spirits, the Guild might not let them in, so she decided to keep it hidden.
"First, take a SHOWER. I'll provide you with some clothes."
"Eh!? Th-that's... we haven't even JOINED the Guild yet."
"Don't MISUNDERSTAND. I can't have you catching a cold and spreading bad rumors about the Guild. That would be troublesome."
Suddenly, Kasumi wondered who this young man was.
Was he a Guild official, or perhaps an Adventurer?
"There's a shower room on the second floor in the back. I'll arrange for some clothes. Once you're done, come to the room in front on the second floor."
"Y-YES!"
The young man led them to the shower room and then left.
"He was a mysterious person..."
"Big sis, I'm cold... I want to take a shower!"
"Y-yeah, ME too."
They both entered the same shower room and washed off the sweat and grime.
After exiting the shower room, the receptionist matron Katrina handed them towels and clothes.
To avoid being discovered as a spirit, Kasumi performed a [ritual] and hid her horns.
"Thank you so much for your kindness!"
"Think nothing of it. Now then, I'll show you BOTH to your room."
"Ah, y-yes!"
Led by Katrina, Kasumi and her sister were shown to a splendid room.
"Ah! The BIG brother from before!"
Kanaho noticed the young man from earlier.
"Just boiled some water. Sit there. I'll serve you something to drink."
"N-no way! That's TOO kind!"
"Just SIT down already. How about some cocoa for you, Kana?"
"Cocoa──! I WANT it!"
With a bright smile, my little sister plopped down on the sofa.
"H-hold on! I-I'm really sorry..."
"Don't worry about it. You SIT too."
"Y-YES..."
The young man efficiently brewed tea and cocoa, placing them in front of us.
"I-I'm really sorry..."
"Would COOKIES be alright as a snack?"
"Cookies? I WANNA eat!"
"C-calm down a little, Kana... I'm sorry for letting you munch so much."
Without a second thought, he set down a plate piled high with cookies in front of us.
"Yummy! Big sister, these are super delicious!"
"Y-you should at least say thank you!"
He didn't seem to mind my sister's greedy attitude at all.
"Kasumi. You should EAT too."
"B-but... I feel bad about it."
"If you feel bad, just keep quiet and eat. Not eating something offered is worse manners."
"That's RIGHT, big sister! Eat up!"
In the end, Kasumi decided to accept the offering.
She took a bite, and her eyes widened.
"S-so good..."
Before she knew it, she had finished one cookie.
"This is delicious!"
"Yeah, it really is."
Just then, a loud growl rumbled from her stomach.
Grrrrr~~~
"Oof..."
Maybe it was because she'd just eaten something so tasty on an empty stomach, but her hunger had only intensified.
"I'm so sorry..."
"Hang tight. Breakfast is on its way."
Knock knock, and then the door swung open to reveal Katrina as she stepped inside.
"BREAKFAST is served!"
On the tray she carried were hot sandwiches loaded with potatoes, piled high with the Guild's popular breakfast set.
"Whoa! That looks amazing!"
Katrina carefully set down the tray in front of us with a clatter.
"Now come on, you TWO, eat while it's still hot!"
"Is it really okay!? YAY!"
In a rush, Kasumi almost toppled over, but I caught her just in time.
"What are you doing? It's been forever since we had a warm meal!"
"B-but no! We don't have any money..."
"Ah... that's true..."
Yet, he shook his head.
"Don't get the wrong idea. This is my breakfast."
He picked up a hot sandwich.
"But it's a bit too much food. I'll leave the rest for you two."
"Umm, well..."
My little sister tugged on my arm, guigui!
"Onee-chan... I'm hungry..."
"Ugh... but..."
He sighed.
"Just EAT. You gonna waste this food?"
"...Understood. I shall accept it with gratitude."
Seeing Kasumi nod, my sister began to eat gatsu gatsu.
"Delicious! The best in the world! Delicious!"
With the first bite, the flavors of tuna and egg spread through her mouth.
"......"
"Onee-chan, what's WRONG? Why are you crying?"
"I-I'm sorry... This is the first time anyone has been so kind to me..."
Oni are already hated.
No matter where we go, we're turned away.
This young man was the first person to be so kind to us, people he'd just met and knew nothing about.
"Thank you very much. I don't know how to express my gratitude."
"No need for thanks. Just repay it by working as Adventurers."
"Yes... wait, HUH? Uh, what did you just say?"
The young man stared at Kasumi.
"Kasumi of the Oni, and you, Kanaho. You two came to join my Guild, didn't you?"
"!? W-WHY... do you know that? A-and, my horns are hidden with a spell!"
Ignoring Kasumi's pale face, the young man snorted.
"I can see that much."
"Um... I'm sorry. I didn't mean to deceive you!"
"Hmph, such a clumsy spell isn't deceiving anyone. You don't have to worry about it."
"...You're NOT angry?"
"Of course not."
What a kind and generous person.
Kasumi burst into tears.
"Don't cry. We can't get anything done."
He said this and handed her a handkerchief.
"I'm sorry..."
"Now, about your future..."
Then, Kasumi realized something.
"Um, that is... I haven't received permission to join the Guild from the Guildmaster here yet..."
He widened his eyes and sighed.
"Permission or not, I AM the Guildmaster here."
Yes, he was the rumored Villainous Guildmaster they had been talking about.
The gap was so overwhelming that Kasumi couldn't help but shout out.
"Huh? W-WHAT!? NO WAYYYYYY!"
"Big sis, this BIG guy is super nice!"
