Volume 5 Chapter 8 ACT.139 Backside (I)
While Rize is eating dinner at the inn...
The arena has many buildings, like the gladiators' inns.
It's like a small town!
This is happening in the lodging for the supporters, in one of those buildings.
"So, what's so suspicious about the arena?"
Alfonso took off his servant clothes and sat on a fancy bed, asking Belta.
"Well, it's not that the arena is suspicious. It's more like the arena is the only thing left."
Belta answered Alfonso with a weird way of speaking.
She sat on the window of the lodging, which was high up, enjoying the night breeze.
She looked troubled and said,
"Do you remember when Rai got hurt and came back?"
"Oh yeah, Rize's first fight, right?"
Alfonso crossed his arms, remembering the past.
Because of that, they found out about the Reincarnators and the "Dragon King" who leads them.
"They said they were attacked by a group of small dragons, but that's strange."
Alfonso nodded at Belta's words.
"Dragons are rare. They can't have babies, so they don't become a group, right?"
Alfonso repeated what he heard from the Heretic Hunter.
Then Belta continued with a serious face.
"I think those were made on purpose."
Alfonso was ready for that, so he didn't show any surprise.
"And, my 'roots' gave me some news."
His "roots" are the people who still serve him, even though he's not a royal anymore.
They are all over the Kingdom, like roots in the ground.
"They will have a dragon fight in a few days, for the festival."
Alfonso frowned.
The Purge Knights, including Alfonso, have enough experience and skill, and they know how to hunt dragons.
"Capturing a dragon is forbidden without the Holy Church's permission. If we hurt them too much and they breathe fire, it would cause a disaster."
"But if a dragon is trained properly, that might be different──"
Belta hesitated, and Alfonso frowned as he continued.
"You mean controlling a group of dragons like those Reincarnators?"
"Also, I've always had my doubts about this."
Alfonso didn't say what he doubted.
He likely held the same question himself for a long time.
"It's their source of funding, right?"
Belta nodded, agreeing with Alfonso's words.
"I'm sure they need significant funds and support to operate and hide their activities."
"So, there might be sponsors funding the Reincarnators for the arena operations?"
While looking out the window at the streets and related facilities of Shaura below, Belta glared at the enemy lurking somewhere.
"At least, that's what I think."
