Volume 5 Chapter 7 ACT.138 Gladiator Rize (II)

Regardless of who supports them, gladiators must spend their time outside of matches in the same dormitory, separated by gender.

In the dormitory for female gladiators, attached to the arena, Aisha welcomes Rize after her first battle.

"But this is just our usual meal, you know!"

 "This is our usual?"

The dinner served in the dormitory cafeteria seemed very extravagant to Rize.

On the table, there was steamed chicken and river fish, a large bowl of wheat noodles, and a generous serving of steamed taro and root vegetables.

It might even be better than when she worked at the Holy Church headquarters as a Holy Knight, she thought to herself.

"We fighters need to take care of our bodies, so at least our meals are proper."

Chuckling, Aisha sits down next to Rize with a bowl of the same menu.

However, even though it was the same menu, Aisha's portion was clearly larger than Rize's.

"But isn't that too much carbohydrate?"

A heap of wheat noodles and taro.

Rize remembered hearing from someone──probably Noah or Curtis the special agent──that foods like wheat and taro are important sources of energy for the body.

It's not just the quantity of food, but also what and when you eat that matters, she thought.

But still, too much of these carbohydrates──.

"It's so we don't gain any *unwanted* fat, you know."

 "Huh?"

 ──Get fat.

Any unused energy just gets stored in the body, Rize thought with concern, her voice slipping out in an odd tone.

"We can't wear really tight armor, so we have to wear it *under* our skin, you know."

As she says this, Aisha noisily chews on the taro and root vegetables.

"If you want to avoid *accidents* or death, you better eat a lot too."

 Rize can understand that logic.

But while she can understand it, whether she can accept it emotionally is another matter.

As a young woman, she has a strong resistance to the idea of getting fat.

But still, when in Rome, do as the Romans do.

"I'll hold a grudge against you, Sir Belta."

She cursed at Belta, who had given her this task, for what felt like the hundredth time, but she reluctantly picked up a bowl filled to the brim with rice porridge.

 "Ah, I forgot!"

Just as she was about to take a bite of the porridge, Aisha said this and handed Rize something.

It was a round tablet made from hardened white powder.

"You should eat this too. I don't know why, but it's been the rule lately."

Rize thought, "Wow," but without questioning it, she swallowed the tablet.
