Volume 5 Chapter 15 ACT.146 Three Swords Reggie Grave (II)
Reggie quickly sets his sights on Belta.
"A rat, huh?"
Hmmm, Belta rests his chin on his hand and pretends to think naturally.
"Is that as a pet? Or for eating?"
"Oh?"
Reggie raises an eyebrow at Belta's unexpected response.
"I've heard rumors of very tasty mice from far-off Eastern lands across the sea. Is it possible those mice are in Shaura?"
"Hahaha!"
That answer makes Reggie burst out laughing.
Belta secretly thinks Reggie's laugh is fake but puts on a confused expression.
"Sorry about that. If you're interested, I'll invite you to a place where you can eat those mice next time."
"Oh, that sounds great. Can I bring one of my trusted attendants with me?"
"Sure, we'll talk real business at that dinner."
After thanking Reggie for taking the time to connect, Belta leaves the council room.
As he walks back, his footsteps echoing softly, Belta mutters to himself.
"Ugh, what a bothersome guy."
A fierce smile, unimaginable from usual Belta, spreads across his face.
Like a lion spotting a fine prey.
"Speaking of which, a rat..."
He whispers that and suddenly stops, turning back.
Far behind him stands the heavy door of the council room, and beyond it, the prey he just connected with (Reggie).
Staring at him from beyond the door, Belta opens his rat.
"──A rat, huh?"
If that's a code for spies, Belta has no clue.
Because Belta hasn't planted any roots with Reggie.
"If this was a trap, then maybe a *third party* is involved?"
* * *
After Belta leaves, Reggie pulls out a chair at the round table and sits down heavily, letting out a long, thin sigh.
It's a release from the tension he felt just moments ago.
"Hmm, it seems like someone who *can't eat* has come here."
He leaned on the desk, covering his face, and continued to mumble.
"That spy from yesterday, I wonder if they are *connected* to the kingdom."
