Volume 4 Chapter 5 ACT.96 Saint and Special Service Priest (I)
After telling Rai Conwell to take a break and sending him off, Special Agent Priest Curtis was left alone in the large, circular table room, letting out a deep sigh.
It wasn't a sigh of resignation, but rather one of relief.
"I guess it went well."
Feeling at ease after successfully navigating the conversation with Rai, he couldn't help but slump down on the spot.
The man known as Special Agent Priest Curtis was, in reality, nothing special.
He was more aware of this fact than anyone else.
He had simply been given the role of Special Agent Priest because he happened to be good at his job and didn't have the courage to defy his superiors, making him a convenient asset.
There were plenty of others who could replace him.
Special Agent Priest Curtis was just one of many ordinary, unremarkable individuals who had been randomly selected from a pool of talent.
Although he was technically the superior officer of the Purge Knights, this was only a nominal title.
In reality, they were all subject to the authority of Saint Stella, who stood behind him.
As a result, he had to be even more cautious in his dealings with others, given her influence.
Curtis's predecessor had been killed by a certain Purge Knight.
However, that Purge Knight had not been punished or dismissed from their position, and continued to serve to this day.
"In the end, both I and the Purge Knights are nothing more than disposable tools to Saint."
But there was a huge difference in their value.
The Purge Knights were high-priced disposable tools, while Special Agent Priests like himself were cheap and expendable.
It was obvious which one would be chosen in times of crisis.
That's why Curtis was extremely careful in his actions and behavior.
And the Purge Knight he needed to be most careful around right now was Rai Conwell.
The *unprecedented favorite* of Saint Stella.
The fact that she would personally come to see him – or rather, play with him – was a terrifying prospect for Curtis.
The way she favored him, the way she toyed with him, was something that filled Curtis with fear.
It was clear that he felt he held more value to her than just an expensive consumable.
The reason Curtis felt the need to suddenly give Rai a long leave of absence was that he believed his injuries and health could potentially jeopardize his life.
He had a certain confidence.
If the person named Saint Stella caused any harm to Rai, then──
Upon thinking that, Curtis felt a strong chill and shuddered.
"So Conwell, please keep things really calm within my jurisdiction."
With a prayer-like feeling, Curtis murmured.
