Volume 4 Chapter 43 Epilogue: The Worst Sign (II)
──Late at night, at the "Donkey's Mane Inn."
The sign was taken down, and in the empty shop after closing, only one girl remained.
"I think I might have done something..."
She mumbles this as she plops down at a random table, lying face down.
The bustling restaurant filled with regulars during the day now echoes hollowly, further clouding Saria's mind.
Yesterday, she and Rai went on a date and something... happened.
As a result, Saria passed out halfway and lost her memory, and when she woke up, it was already over.
──Yes, it was already over.
"What was that important talk?"
Rai, who said there was something important to discuss when he returned, suddenly had to leave for work and quickly disappeared.
Saria wanted to cling to him, but his urgent demeanor made that impossible.
So here she is, still lingering in the shop.
Maybe he forgot something, and he might come back.
Maybe he finished work early by mistake and will return.
Several 'what-ifs' whirl through her mind, preventing her from going back to her room.
"Rai, I'm──."
"Good evening."
Suddenly, a voice echoed out.
In the shop where she should be alone, Saria is startled by the voice and hurriedly looks up.
There, sitting right next to the chair she occupied, was the voice's owner.
The girl had long, starlight-bright blonde hair, wore a graceful dress that reminded one of white lilies, and her eyes were covered with a black cloth, giving her the appearance of a blind idol with a beautiful visage.
Without thinking, Saria is captivated by her "goddess-like" face and gasps in surprise.
"Um, the shop's already closed for today."
Thinking it might be a customer, she calls out to her.
In response, the girl smiles ambiguously and, without answering her question, says:
"Are you in some kind of trouble, miss? If you like, won't you tell me about it?"
The girl had a somewhat supernatural aura about her.
Feeling this, Saria involuntarily opens her mouth.
"Yesterday, I think I did something with someone important, but I can't remember what it was."
"Well..."
The girl makes a sad face as Saria talks about her worries without saying Rai's name.
"It's sad not to remember something important, isn't it?"
"Yes, that's why I──"
"──Then, *let me help you remember*!"
The girl's porcelain-like hand touches Saria's face.
In that moment, Saria feels like her brain is flipping upside down.
"Ahh!"
A meaningless sound escapes from Saria's mouth.
Memories flash back, as if someone is digging into her brain and mixing everything up.
And among them, there are memories that Saria doesn't know about.
──A city shining like the night sky, a red tower, screens showing information one after another, trains running in a line──.
Sinking into the flood of memories pouring from the depths of her soul, Saria's consciousness fades to black.
Just before that, the girl's voice barely reaches her.
"Well then, say hi to 'My Rai' for me!"
