Volume 4 Chapter 38 ACT.129 Despair (III)
After switching with Rai to confirm Dominic's death, I hurried to chase the subordinates who had kidnapped Saria.
The blow Rai delivered was definitely not light.
I followed the countless bloodstains left on the ground.
Eventually, I arrived at the abandoned house that the Chaos Cult's Dominic faction was using as a temporary base.
──There, everything had *already ended*.
Kicking the door open, he found that the general Holy Knights and 2 Purge Knights had already completely subdued the area.
Looking around at the *grim scene*, Rai muttered, "Well, I guess that makes sense."
It was strange that Saint Stella, who could predict my movements, hadn't been able to handle this situation first.
"You were late, huh, senior?"
As soon as he spotted Rai in the messy room, the first to speak was Noah Lowe.
And there was another colleague here──.
"What's this? Wasn't Conwell off duty?"
──Purge Knight, ranked fifth, the "Best" knight, Howard Hooker.
His well-built muscles and shaved head with a black beard were striking, even under his black armor.
"This time, we took care of *everyone*, huh?"
"──It couldn't be helped."
Howard clenched his fists, trembling with anger.
His title of "Best" wasn't just a compliment.
"Best" also had a hint of mockery in it.
While he was a Purge Knight tasked with eliminating Reincarnators and heretics, he was too kind.
"They had kidnapped several innocent people; we didn't know what they might do."
"Several?"
Rai felt a twinge at Howard's words, but he decided to put that question aside for now.
"There should be a chestnut-haired girl among them."
Above all, my top priority was to confirm Saria's safety.
As I moved my gaze around busily, Howard seemed to sense something and replied.
"We safely protected her, and now she's with other rescuers in the back."
"Thank you!"
"Oh, Conwell!"
Without listening to Howard's words, Rai ran off.
Howard tilted his head, resting his chin in his hand, watching Rai leave.
"What was that about?"
"Hey, old man, it's better not to stick your nose in things like this."
"Huh?"
Howard felt a vein pop on his shaved head from being called "old man" by Noah.
Noah, unfazed, continued with a light tone.
"Even seniors have important people in their lives."
