Volume 4 Chapter 33 ACT.124 Hope (I)
Rai, skilled with a sword and a round shield.
Dominic, adept with a spear and taking hits.
This fight, without any special abilities, is a fierce exchange of swordplay.
Dominic's swift, sharp thrusts are deflected by Rai's round shield, while Rai's relentless strikes are parried by Dominic's spear.
Their seamless repetition might appear as a dance to onlookers.
That is, if one ignores the extraordinary murderous intent in both of them.
And after dozens, hundreds of exchanges,
It's the young Rai who starts to breathe heavily first.
"Hmph, reached your limit, kid? Even Aslan wouldn't be proud!"
"Shut up!"
To disrupt Rai's pace, Dominic keeps taunting during breaks.
Normally, such tactics wouldn't rattle him, causing *unnecessary* exhaustion.
But Rai's current state is far from usual──a broken right hand, the urgency to save Saria, and the fear of her truly becoming a Reincarnator.
These thoughts steal his calm and focus.
Finally, in the midst of the sword storm, Dominic's spear catches the edge of Rai's round shield and knocks it away.
With his guard down, Rai's right hand can't pull the sword back in time.
A fierce thrust from the stone pierces Rai's chest.
"Gah!"
Though armored, the strong blow is undoubtedly effective.
Dominic, now in control, speaks leisurely to the thrown-off Rai.
"What do you think of Reincarnators?"
"They're just monsters, nothing more."
"You're mistaken, kid."
He shakes his head, denying Rai's words with a patronizing gesture, as if scolding a naive child.
Then, the former Holy Knight Captain Dominic Dubois begins to speak.
Why did I leave the Holy Church and join the Chaos Cult to support the Reincarnator?
"──The Reincarnator is hope."
