Volume 4 Chapter 26 ACT.117 Encounter (V)

 "Say it again."

Dominic looked down at Rai, who couldn't hide his anxiety, and pressed on.

"*People can easily change depending on the situation*."

Dominic's words had a unique weight, likely coming from his experience.

"Kid, you can change, too, based on the right trigger."

He had his own reasons for approaching Rai.

He believed he could sway Rai to his side.

Betraying the Holy Church, Rai would join the Chaos Cult.

If Rai stood with them, would there be any salvation?

 Would a happy tomorrow come?

I looked up at his face through Rai's vision.

I tried to read the heart hidden beneath his cold gaze.

──I can say with certainty that this is not the case.

With my mind-reading ability, I knew Dominic just wanted to use Rai.

He aimed to manipulate Rai as a useful weapon and wear him down.

There was *no choice* for me to follow Dominic and betray the Holy Church.

But there was no way to tell Rai that from behind.

That's why I had to eliminate Dominic myself.

"──That seems like the quickest way."

I steeled my resolve, took control of the body, and dislocated my left shoulder to widen my range of motion.

Then I grabbed Dominic's foot, which was stepping on my back, and pulled it.

Dominic almost lost his balance when I pulled his weighted foot.

In that brief moment, I rolled sideways to break free and got up, keeping my distance to avoid a follow-up attack.

Being facedown made me too scared of a stomp attack.

Even if I could read their mind, there are attacks that can't be dodged, and stomping is one of them.

 "You're being quite reckless."

"Unfortunately, I haven't lived a life where this is considered reckless."

I skillfully popped my shoulder back into place and grimaced at the sharp pain while I answered.

Dominic glanced around to assess the situation.

Suddenly, instead of the people who were shocked by the fight, many footsteps were coming closer from afar.

"I think it's time to go."

"You think you can just run away?"

I picked up a nearby stone, ready to throw it as an attack.

"Maybe it's better if we both back off."

Dominic's suggestion made me frown in annoyance.

It was frustrating, but there was some truth to his idea.
