──How to Become a Reincarnator.
The Chaos Cult knows about that dark magic. There has been talk about it for a long time.
But, that was just gossip, nothing more.
In reality, Rai and the Purge Knights have confronted the Chaos Cult many times and purged several factions, yet no trace of that dark magic was found.
It was just a rumor; it shouldn't exist.
"That's, that's ridiculous!"
"It's not ridiculous. My faction has completed it. That's why I came to Benetonash."
Dominic runs his fingers over the scar on his cheek.
That scar was made by Rai during a mock battle when he was not yet a Purge Knight.
"You are strong. You have a talent that will one day equal that of the top-ranked prisoner."
Dominic has valued Rai's strength and talent for a long time.
──It could be said that this was a kind of obsession.
"With you, bringing down the Holy Church is no longer a fantasy."
"You think I would agree to that?"
With fiery anger in his eyes, Rai glares at Dominic above him.
"I took her to make you agree. ──I understand you kid hates Reincarnators, but can you keep that hate if your precious one becomes a Reincarnator?"
In that moment, a different feeling stirred in Rai's heart, separate from the boiling anger.
──Fear.
Not the fear of losing Saria.
But the fear of *killing her*.
Rai has always lived by not forgiving Reincarnators or those who protect them.
Yet, that was his kindness turned inside out.
Anger born from losing something precious.
Could he really kill his precious one, Saria?
Even if it meant going against everything he has done so far.
As he thought about that, a cold fear invaded his heart, calming the raging fire of anger.
"B-but I'm still──"
The words of rebuttal lacked spirit.
──Rai Conwell has never killed his master.
The moment when he first questioned his own beliefs had finally come.
