Volume 4 Chapter 17 ACT.108 Two People’s Meal (II)
Saria chose a light snack shop with a terrace.
The shop had a bright roof and a striking sign.
"Donkey's Mane Inn doesn't have many snacks, so I'm a bit curious."
"If the type is different, the meaning changes too."
"U-um, let's not talk about that, okay?"
After ordering at the counter, the two sat at a table facing the busy street outside.
Once seated, Saria suddenly began to speak.
"Now that I think about it, is this my first time eating with you, Rai?"
"It might be."
Even though Rai lived at "Donkey's Mane Inn," he was still a guest.
Their meal times were different from Saria and her friends.
So, it was the first time they ate together face-to-face.
"It's strange. It's been about 3 years since you came to my place, and this is our first time."
"Yeah, we just didn't have the chance."
"You're often away for months on work, too."
Saria spoke brightly, but inside, she felt very differently.
She knew that Rai Conwell had almost no personal belongings.
Instead of renting a house, he paid daily to live at the inn.
So when he was away for months, she always worried.
──What if Rai never came back?
There was so little proof that he actually lived here.
She always felt that anytime they said "see you," it might be the last time.
"──Rai, will you keep doing your job?"
Her hidden worries spilled out a little.
"Saria?"
Rai called her name in surprise at her sudden question.
"My parents know a lot of people, so if you want, they could suggest other jobs for you."
Once the words left her mouth, she couldn't take them back.
Instead, more words flowed out, one after the other.
──She couldn't stop.
"Rai doesn't have to do *dangerous things*. I know you can do it."
