In the end, Leone collapsed again, like slipping into a faint.
Rai couldn't just leave her—so he scooped her up and ran.
And where he went was the Rib House in the slum street.
"Sorry!"
Rai called out, and then went into the Rib House.
"Huh, what's going on all of a sudden──wait, Sir Knight?"
There was a small guy there, a freeloader who Leone had helped the other day.
Yesterday, just in case, Rai had asked where he hung out during the day.
"Why are you in the military guard's (that kind of) clothes? Did something happen to the lady?"
The small guy was suspicious of Rai and the others' outfits, but as soon as he saw Leone in his arms, he started worrying about her.
"I want you to look after her for a little while."
Right now, it was too risky to leave her unconscious at the base, which had already been found out.
They weren't supposed to be seen—but if anyone had done something like that now, it could only be Rai and the others. That alone made him nervous about the military guard.
There was no proof, so they likely wouldn't act openly. But behind the scenes, hidden and masked? That was another story.
With that in mind, it was safer to leave her on a slum street—the one place the guard was purposely ignoring, or rather, refusing to touch.
"Can I count on you?"
Rai bowed his head politely to the small guy.
The small guy was actually intimidated by his actions.
"S-stop it. You're not the kind of guy who should be bowing your head!?"
He was a weak person who was unwanted by the country in the town, and his existence wasn't even recognized.
On the other hand, Rai was a Purge Knight, a strong position that didn't have many replacements.
For him, Rai bowing his head to him gave him the feeling of being *scary and terrifying*.
For example, even if Rai cut off his head for no reason right now, the country wouldn't punish him.
Even though their social statuses and positions were so different, Rai was bowing his head to him as an equal.
"You're a follower of the Holy Church, just like me, right?"
"Well, yes, but..."
"Then, under the goddess, we're the same kind of people. There's no difference."
That's when the small guy realizes something.
When he first met Rai, he saw Leone and his group drinking a lot of alcohol and felt really down.
He thought Leone was hanging out with lazy people, but now he remembers that Rai never said anything bad about them.
Even though they were looked down on and disrespected, Rai didn't do that.
"We Holy Knights protect the followers, not just the citizens. That includes you guys too."
With a harsh look, Rai answers.
Seeing those eyes, the small guy is deeply moved from the bottom of his heart.
He thought he didn't have that kind of heart anymore, being all dirty and messy.
He never knew being treated like a human could make him so happy.
"──Yes, yes! If you need me, I'll help as much as I can!"
