In the next moment, she uttered something shocking.
"When we meet next time, I won't be able to kill my brother, Abel."
The instant Rai heard Leone's words, his heart skipped a beat.
"What... did you just say?"
It was a statement he never anticipated.
Rai crouched down to be at eye level and grabbed Leone's shoulders with urgency.
"Are you saying you're letting a *reincarnator* escape!?"
The Holy Church, and by extension the Purge Knights, didn't have a low success rate when it came to hunting down reincarnators.
Several reasons accounted for this.
Firstly, the high skill level of the Purge Knights.
Secondly, the extensive knowledge accumulated by the Holy Church in dealing with reincarnators.
Finally, the relatively low skill level of the reincarnators they faced.
Thanks to the early detection of reincarnators guided by Saint Stella's divine insight, they could hunt them down before they fully mastered their otherworldly powers.
This was likely the most significant factor contributing to the Purge Knights' victories.
──However, that changed with time.
If they were up against a reincarnator who had fully mastered their cheat (special ability), it wouldn't be the same story.
Thus, confronting a reincarnator skilled in their cheat was an extremely risky──high mortality──mission for the Purge Knights.
To mitigate this risk, the Holy Church relied on the Saints, but──
"It's been over a decade since then, yet that child hasn't been defeated."
Upon hearing Leone's confession, Rai felt blood drain from his face.
A reincarnator who had spent over ten years honing their cheat (special ability) was now a looming threat.
"That's the first I've heard of such a ticking time bomb."
Three years since becoming a Purge Knight, Rai was unaware of such an extraordinary existence.

With a pained expression, Leone continued her words.
"My little brother, Abel Godwin──Asamine Shigi, is the only Reincarnator that the current Holy Church has yet to kill."
This knowledge, if known both inside and outside the Church, could tarnish the authority of the Holy Church, and by extension, that of the Purge Knights.
That's precisely why Rai's existence was kept hidden from him as well.
Yet here she was, revealing this fact to Rai without the *Church's permission*.
If this went poorly, she could face severe penalties.
"I became a Purge Knight to kill the brother I let slip away that day. So, this Reincarnator, who possesses the same cheat (special ability) as that child, should be──"
Even so, the mere act of her confessing this indicated one profound truth.
"──I want to kill him with my own hands."
──It was a devastatingly strong resolve, akin to a curse.
