Volume 3 Chapter 43 ACT.78 Trauma (IV)
"──So the side effect of the cheat (special ability) is that you have to *eat people*, huh?"
When those words slipped from Jackson Bailey's mouth, a change came over Leone.
In an instant, the "me" who had been observing from within Rai was flooded with a powerful emotion──no, a memory.
Through the read-mind cheat (special ability), the past (trauma) Leone had just remembered came crashing in like an avalanche.
That intense torrent of thoughts and emotions caused me a sharp headache and dizziness.
This is the drawback of the read-mind cheat (special ability).
When a powerful emotion or a terrible past (trauma) within the range of the ability is recalled, it flows uncontrollably into me.
If it exceeds my capacity, I get a terrible headache.
Previously, the Reincarnator with the future vision cheat (special ability) who fought with us in the Chaos Cult had a capacity overload (over) as a result of clashing with my cheat (special ability), and that became the reason for their defeat.
Perhaps this is a common weakness of psychic ability users.
And the problem is, this isn't just my problem.
Rai and I share one body.
In other words, my consciousness exists by borrowing a part of Rai's brain.
So, this kind of load from the cheat (special ability) will──
"Ugh, my head!?"
──also affect Rai.
Suddenly struck by a violent headache, Rai is completely oblivious to Leone's condition.
There's no room to notice.
"—Kh… gah… cough."
Leone, overtaken by the trauma of her memories, fell into a state of severe distress and instinctively pressed her hand to her mouth.
But, the stomach acid she couldn't hold back began to overflow from the gap between her fingers.
"Huh, what's going on?"
Even if she tried to hide it, it stood to reason that such an abnormal aura would be noticed.
Jackson Bailey, sensing the change in their energies, takes action.
Rai is incapacitated by a headache, and Leone is overwhelmed by her trauma, leaving them unable to assess the situation.
We can't afford to be found here, but there's nothing the two of them can do to prevent it.
──It can't be helped.
Despite the pounding headache, I'm still confident that under the same conditions, I've got more game than Rai.
I didn't want to switch out with Purge Knight (Leone) while she was around, but I can't let this chance slip by.
Let's just hope the groggy girl doesn't notice Rai has taken over.
Flick the switch on my consciousness.
From the front (Rai) to the flip side (me).
In an instant, I burst out from under the desk.
I have to strike first and strike hard.
Before the enemy recognizes my face, I'll take them out.
Like a beast, I lower my center of gravity and slide beneath them.
Then, with both hands on the floor, I assume a stance like an upside-down gymnast──
"Huh!?"
──And I kick up Jackson Bailey's jaw from directly below.
With the force of that impact, I plant both feet on his chest as he goes limp, and fling myself at another lackey.
Then, straightening my posture, I reach for the desk and fling all the papers on top at them.
In a room swirling with a storm of paper, there's no way anyone can calmly assess the situation.
I dash away, clutching the exhausted Leone, and kick the door open, bursting into the hallway.
There's probably no time to run all the way to the entrance.
"Yahoo, Namu Amida Butsu!"
With a couldn't-care-less attitude, I smash through the nearest window.
A free fall from the third floor.
I take the impact passively, mitigating the damage as best I can, then straighten up and sprint away without a moment's hesitation.
So, I managed to escape unscathed, but I've got to say, this body's abilities are just plain inhuman.
Thanks, Rai, for never skipping a day of training on the surface!
