Volume 3 Chapter 41 ACT.76 Leone/Origin (IV)

"It's okay, I'll protect you, Abel."

* * *

 "──Abel, you *are* Abel, right?"

Leone gripped her little brother's shoulders in his room, her voice intense.

Trying to quell the unease bubbling in her heart, she pressed Abel with words uncharacteristic of her.

 "I'm me, sis."

He flashed a smile, and said it with a grin.

Seeing his smile, Leone exhaled softly, relieved for the moment.

She released her grip on his shoulders and embraced her brother.

Not for Abel's sake, but to reassure herself.

"It's alright, no one will find out. Everything will be fine, it'll all go back to normal."

Surely, things would stay the same from now on.

Abel hadn't died, and she hadn't made a mistake.

Let's just pretend that day never happened.

 "──I hope so, *Leone*."

──At that moment, she didn't realize Abel's true intentions. He hadn't said he was "Abel." He'd said *me*.

──A few days had passed since the Festival.

Leone had made it a daily habit to take slightly longer walks to check the town's condition.

Leone walked down the town's main street, glancing around nervously.

 "──Looks like everything's okay."

Nothing out of the ordinary had happened around her and Abel since then.

But she had no idea what might happen, and when.

According to her parents, the Saint Stella receives a revelation when a Reincarnator appears. And before they could commit any evil deeds, the Saint Stella's Black Holy Knight would come.

"Abel doesn't seem to have been found by the Saint yet."

She muttered to herself, making sure no one could hear her, confirming the absence of the black armor.

As time passed, Leone's anxiety grew.

Abel had been going off alone, and she felt the pressure of what might happen if she told anyone her secret.

 "Please, let nothing happen."

She closed her eyes softly and prayed to the goddess.

The sound of a distant bell reverberated, and she opened her eyes with a start.

As she wandered through the town, lost in thought, she suddenly realizes that the day has already begun to decline.

"I need to get home soon."

With a hateful gaze at the red light that reminded her of that day, she took off running.

Of course, she wouldn't use *that path*.

──And that choice would seal her fate.
