Volume 3 Chapter 38 ACT.73 Leone/Origin (Ⅰ)

"──that the side effect of their cheat (special ability) means they *can't help but devour people.*"

──Leone thought the same thing. No, she corrected herself.

 Memories flooded back.

The incident that shaped her current self, the origin.

The unforgivable, monstrous crime she committed.

The horrifying tragedy that would never fade.

 "Ugh, ugh, ahhh..."

She couldn't hold back the overwhelming nausea.

The torrent of intense emotions surging through her mind instantly consumed her consciousness.

 And then, her consciousness returned.

* * *

 ──Leone Godwin.

She was a peculiar girl born into a wealthy merchant family.

From birth, she possessed a unique physique, her muscles developing without any effort.

Moreover, maintaining and growing those muscles required an enormous amount of food each day.

In fact, she would have starved to death if she only ate the amount a normal girl her age consumed.

If she had lived in a different time, she might have faced discrimination and abuse.

Without her family's understanding, she would have died long ago.

 But she was incredibly fortunate.

Her family was wealthy, so they never let her go hungry.

And her family showered her with unconditional love, even though she was different.

Loving parents and a brother, and a cute little brother.

Surrounded by her family, ten-year-old Leone was happy.

──It was the peak of happiness.

 And then, one day.

It was midday during a small festival in the town square.

"Abel, let's go to the festival together!"

Holding the pocket money her father had given her, she invited her younger brother, Abel, to play.

Abel was a quiet boy, the complete opposite of Leone's lively and energetic personality.

Even though there was a festival in town, with delicious food stalls and entertainers, he was content to stay in the corner of a room, reading a picture book.

 "Eh, but I'm reading..."

 "The weather's absolutely perfect!"

Cutting off Abel's words, she flung open the wooden window of the room.

The cloudless sky and the distant hustle and bustle streamed into the dimly lit chamber.

"Can't you read the book later? The festival won't wait for us!"

At this moment, Leone just couldn't help but want to show Abel the joys of the festival.

She yearned to see her dear little brother's face light up with joy.

"──Ah, yeah. Okay, let's go then?"

Abel said this, closing his picture book.

Taking his hand, Leone set off at a run.

──And yet, she was still unaware that this would be the trigger for the tragedy about to unfold.
