That's when Rai shuddered.
Leone sensed movement outside.
"Rai, hide!"
Putting the incriminating documents back where they belonged, the two searched for a place to hide.
On a whim, they ducked under a large desk.
The front of the desk was covered in papers, so as long as they didn't circle around and peek underneath, they should be invisible.
Just as the two hid under the desk...
"Don't move!"
A roar followed by the sound of a door being smashed open.
Captain Bailey and 3 of his men barged into the room.
Each man brandishing a truncheon, they surveyed the office cautiously before slowly stepping inside.
Rai and Leone held their breath, trying to disappear completely.
If they were spotted, a fight would be unavoidable, and the two wanted to avoid that at all costs.
In this situation, regardless of the reason, they would be the ones blamed for trespassing and assault.
Even if they managed to get their hands on proof of wrongdoing, it wouldn't be justified.
There was even a high chance the Holy Church would face some serious repercussions.
The guards patrolled the room, carefully checking for any intruders.
One of them slowly made his way toward the desk.
At the slow, approaching footsteps, Leone tensed, ready to spring out.
But──.
"Captain!"
──It was a false alarm.
Suddenly, another guard rushed into the office in a panic.
"We found Marcel and Meisan! They were attacked and tied up by someone!"
Hearing the urgent news, Captain Bailey raised an eyebrow in surprise.
"Eisen and Mathis, go there. This is enough for me and Jack."
"""Yes, sir."""
At Captain Bailey's words, 2 young male guards, along with the newcomer, quickly left the room.
Observing from the shadows, Rai was impressed by the guards' discipline.
Only Captain Bailey and a middle-aged man, who appeared to be his aide wearing an armband, remained in the room.
"Is there anything missing?"
"Don't worry. I have no taste for bringing valuable items to work."
They must have thought there were no intruders inside.
The two of them took a breath and began to converse.
"What else might the thieves be after──"
"We haven't left anything decisive regarding that *situation*."
Captain Bailey stroked his chin and continued speaking.
"First of all, I've only given instructions to *that thing* once. There's no solid evidence of what it might do. Even if *that thing did say something*, it's a reincarnator──human rights don't apply."
He said this with a malicious grin.
Upon hearing it, Rai gasped.
It seemed his suspicions that Jackson Bailey was involved in this incident were spot on.
"But that thing is quite a troublesome creature, no, a monster? Could it be──"
And then he uttered the definitive words about the reincarnator's ability.
"──that the side effect of their cheat (special ability) means they *can't help but devour people.*"
Hearing Captain Bailey's unbelievable words, Rai's eyes widened in shock.

The one who had been hiding──Leone.
