Volume 3 Chapter 35 ACT.70 Trauma (I)
"I wonder if they're keeping important evidence at the barracks?"
"Well, Captain Bailey has a wife and kids, so it's probably safer at home than at work."
Rai and Leone whispered to each other, carefully avoiding prying eyes as they made their way to the military guard barracks.
"If you're going to hide a tree, do it in the forest; if you're going to hide documents──"
"In the middle of those documents, I see."
With that, they checked the surroundings and moved to the rear of the barracks, tucked into the corner of the building.
Pressing their backs against the wall for cover, they peered around the corner to see what was happening on the other side.
This spot was part of the patrol route that Rai had scouted out beforehand.
As expected, 2 pairs of military guard were approaching, scanning their surroundings as they set off down the path.
It was early morning, and one of the officers wore a sleepy expression, fighting back a yawn.
Feeling a twinge of guilt about what they were about to do, Rai and Leone launched themselves into action.
"──Huh?"
They sprang from the shadows, catching the unsuspecting officers off guard from behind.
Wrapping an arm around each of their necks, they swiftly squeezed, knocking them out cold in an instant.
In just a few seconds, Rai and Leone had incapacitated the officers, dragging their bodies into cover and stripping them of their uniforms.
"You know, these military uniforms are pretty cool!"
"Yeah, they really are──"
With a playful grin, Leone slipped into a crimson uniform, the enjoyment evident in his voice.
When Rai glanced over at the sound, he──
"──Does it really suit me!?"
──The unisex uniform fit Rai perfectly by sheer luck, but Leone's chest looked a little tight in her ensemble, prompting Rai to hastily avert his gaze.
After finishing the disrobing, they restrained the military guard, binding their hands and feet and gagging them before hiding them away.
Now disguised as military guard, Rai and Leone pulled their caps down low to obscure their faces and set off under the pretense of a patrol to infiltrate the barracks.
"Thanks for the hard work!"
They exchanged light greetings with other officers to avoid suspicion, hurrying down the corridor.
Their first destination, of course, was the commander's office.
They needed to rummage through the room before its owner arrived for work.
Time was of the essence.
However, when they broke the lock and entered the office, they stood frozen in shock.
"Ms. Leone, isn't this a bit... problematic?"
Rai muttered, his face twisting into a grimace.
Leone, in response, let out a huge sigh and said with a wry smile,
"Hmm, let's do our best?"
──The office was buried under mountains of parchment.
Looking at the room, which had been unexpectedly, and despairingly, "organized," Rai almost wanted to give up on finding anything useful here.
