Volume 3 Chapter 28 ACT.63 Reincarnator's Saga (I)
"Ugh, the air outside is delicious!"
Finally free, Leone stretched her arms wide, taking in a deep breath of the outside air for the first time in a whole day.
She looked utterly carefree, and Rai couldn't help but feel a little... annoyed.
"Seriously, you have no idea how much crap I had to endure."
"Nah, thanks for helping me out! Love ya!!"
"Whoa!?"
Saying that, Leone closed the distance with a speed worthy of her title, "The Fastest," and grabbed Rai in a hug, starting to rub her cheek against his.
As one of the top Purge Knights, Leone's physical abilities made it impossible for Rai to dodge or break free.
And honestly, ever since they first met during the Purge Knight exam, Leone had always been way too close for comfort.
Rai himself didn't usually show it, but he was still just 17.
A teenage boy in the throes of puberty.
Excessive physical contact from a beautiful, well-endowed older woman... was a bit much.
"H-hey, let go!"
"No way! You're blushing! How cute!"
"I-it's not that, but you smell!"
The moment he said it, Leone released him.
Rai stumbled, freed from her grasp, while Leone looked a little embarrassed.
Apparently, being told she smelled bad got to her, in a very girly way.
"Okay, let's get cleaned up first."
Rai followed Leone as she started walking.
The two of them walked side-by-side, keeping an eye on their surroundings.
Their conversation immediately turned to their mission.
"Tell me about the Reincarnator we encountered."
"As for their cheat, we don't have enough evidence to say for sure what it is, so I'll just tell you what I saw."
Leone's description of the Reincarnator was: "A giant with a monstrous, ape-like physique," "Regeneration ability," and "Attacks people."
"At first, I thought it was just a minion created by the Reincarnator's cheat ability or something, but it could actually talk, so I figured it was probably different. Plus, it didn't just randomly lash out, which makes me think it's surprisingly rational for its appearance."
"Rational, and yet it was attacking people, huh?"
Rai's expression turned sharp and intense as he posed the question.
Leone, unfazed by his piercing gaze, continued his explanation.
"But, why? That's the question, right?"
Back then, the Reincarnator had targeted a filthy homeless man.
What possible benefit could there be in attacking him?
"I mean, isn't it just for fun? That seems like the only reason."
Rai offered a simpler explanation to Leone, who was searching for deeper motives.
"After all, the Reincarnator is a creature that can't exist *without using their special abilities*."
At those words, Rai caught a fleeting shadow of doubt clouding Leone's expression.
