Volume 4 Chapter 50 To the Strategic Sartzstadt, Further Development
This is the epilogue of the story.
"Alright, let's go."
Suzu, dressed in a dazzling outfit, skillfully spun her staff around and pointed its tip towards the towering wall before her.
The onlookers watched with bated breath, as the guards tried to push them back for their safety.
"Great magic god, grant me a fraction of your power, to smash through that wall with a hammer of iron, 'Mjornir'."
One of the few top adventurers on the continent, the magician, unleashed an invisible hammer that struck the wall, resounding with a heavy metallic clang.
Yet, the wall stood unshaken, maintaining its unaltered form.
A loud cheer erupted from the previously silent crowd, clearly indicating the experiment's success.
"Phew... Did we succeed?"
Among the crowd, I'm, feeling relieved, slumped heavily with the release of tension.
It's good that it worked.
If it had failed, we'd have to rebuild the wall again.
"You worry too much, Dad."
"You say that, but..."
Looking up at me with a wry smile, Mariana scratching her head in response.
Look, daughter, even your Mama next to you is holding her chest in relief.
"Well, the experiment's over. That means Big Bro Ryuuji's wall-building is done too."
Suzu returned, her fiery red outfit fluttering behind her.
The dress, which had a big opening at the chest, was made specially for this event, and she seemed to really like it.
I'm happy that my sister cares about her looks just like everyone else.
"Well, it's my wall building, but the craftsmen built the wall."
Saying this, I looked up at the tall outer wall in front of me.
This wall, which surrounds the town, is a masterpiece built over 8 years with the help of many workers and materials gathered from across the continent.
It's definitely not my achievement.
"Oh, but earlier, it was the Magic Stone of Key made by our father and mother that protected against Elder Sister Suzu's high-level magic, right?"
"...Well, that's true."
Mariana smiled mischievously, and I couldn't help but smile wryly too.
Thanks to the core Magic Stone of Key, the outer wall has an incredible defense that can repel high-level magic.
I definitely helped make it with Lene, but that was just a day's work.
The workers who kept at it for 8 years are far more amazing.
"Oh? Is it already over? I hurried here!"
"Ah, Elder Sister Minori!"
While I was dealing with the festival noise, Mariana rushed over to Minori, who had come late.
She seems to be alone, though──
"Minori, you came all the way here alone, even being pregnant? Is your husband at work?"
"Yeah. Well, it's an inn, so I should be grateful that I could even come out during this festival."
Minori laughed cheerfully at Lene, who looked worried.
Even though she hasn't had a child yet, she already has the presence of a true mother.
Minori married the inn's son a few years ago and retired from being an Adventurer.
Suzu also recently married her Adventurer friend, so she plans to retire and live somewhere quiet.
Life has been tough, but I'm glad I could live until my sisters got married.
"You're almost at your due date, right? I'm excited to have a grandchild."
"No, no, it will be a nephew or niece..."
While I sighed thinking about it, Minori shot me a disapproving look.
But even so...
I've been taking care of Minori and Suzu since they were kids, so they feel more like daughters to me than just sisters.
Just then, I noticed a shadow trying to sneak away from the scene.
Not so fast!
"Minori and Suzu both have families now, so it's up to Ai next."
"...That's why I wanted to escape from here..."
Ai, my adopted daughter and eldest, sighed deeply and apparently doesn't even have a boyfriend yet.
In Sartzstadt, a melting pot of races, I don't think Ai, who is Eastern, would have trouble finding a husband.
But it seems she only thinks of men in terms of my standards, so she can't find someone who meets her criteria.
How did it come to this?
"Hey, hey, good work, Count Huntwerker, Ms. Suzu, and everyone else too!"
"I showed up too!"
"Oh, Lord Reichner, good to see you. Miloslaf too!"
While we were chatting, Lord Reichner, who was greeting everyone, came over.
He was accompanied by his bodyguard, Miloslaf.
With so many people around, it feels like one bodyguard isn't enough for a big noble, but that bodyguard's strength is no joke.
"Ms. Minori, are you feeling okay?"
"Yes, thanks to you, I appreciate your concern. When my baby is born, I will come to greet you, Lord Reichner."
"Hehe, I'm looking forward to it."
After having that exchange with Minori, Lord Reichner turned to me with a big smile.
...From my experience, that smile means something is up....
"By the way, Count Huntwerker, your leadership in the outer wall construction really helped, thank you."
"...No, it's nothing. I appreciate the hardworking team for their efforts."
"Yeah, and about the next public project..."
Oh, here it comes.
Of course, that makes sense.
The quarry and cement factory will run out of work, and we need to create new jobs.
Right now, we're assigning workers to build homes to accommodate the growing population, but that will also come to a stop eventually.
