Volume 4 Chapter 15 Interpretations Change When Positions Change, Though...

'...Sorry, did I hear wrong? Did you say...world peace?'

After a few seconds of silence, Your Majesty's confused voice came from the magic stone.

I was also confused. I was speechless because the answer was so unexpected.

The bad guys we've been fighting are nothing like the word "peace."

Miloslaf, who's right here, is one of them.

He came to kill me, and he killed 2 guards in the process.

But Miloslaf looked serious. He didn't seem to be joking.

Does that mean they have their own beliefs?

"Yeah, that's right. To put it simply, God Abnella's idea is to get rid of fighting in this world."

'I don't think what Abnella's followers have done before has anything to do with that. Besides, don't you like fighting?'

I wanted to nod my head so hard it would fall off, because Your Majesty was right.

The Dark Mages have killed innocent people, and Miloslaf is hungry for battle.

I can't believe what he's saying has anything to do with his beliefs.

Miloslaf mumbled, "Well, yeah," and scratched his head.

He seems to know that what he's saying doesn't make sense.

"First, I can't deny that I'm seeking a fight. ...That's why God Abnella dislikes me so much. I've been a follower for decades, yet I still haven't received the power of the Godslayer."

Oh, so the reason you don't have the Godslayer power, even though you're a temple knight, is because of that?

Usually, temple knights and priests, as God's apostles, receive special abilities called divine powers from the gods.

These powers vary depending on the god each one serves. For example, the divine power of Sigmund, the God of Light, is called Holy Light, which wipes out the undead. In Abnella's case, it's the Godslayer.

But I've heard that if someone like Miloslaf goes against the ideals and beliefs of the god, they won't receive power.

Normally, such a person would be excommunicated, but──because of Miloslaf's strength, the organization he belongs to couldn't just cast him out.

"...So, regarding what Abnella's followers have done──honestly, it seems like their activities eliminate the idea of conflict, but I don't fully understand everything. ...However, I do know that the organization and the Romanov Empire act to ultimately reach that ideal, even if they overlook the conflicts that arise along the way."

'I can't make sense of this...'

The sigh mixed with His Majesty's voice probably came from His Excellency Prime Minister Schnorr and His Excellency Duke Hoffman.

 I understand how they feel.

To create a world without conflict, you create conflict?

That kind of thinking is crazy.

It can be said that this is the ultimate form of not choosing means for a goal.

'Did you target Count Huntwerker for that philosophy of yours?'

...Ah, speaking of which, Miloslaf came after me on orders from his boss.

If that's the case, does that mean the Mymagic stone goes against that philosophy?

"That's a bit different. I've heard this magic stone has the unknown power of a god. For God Abnella, that could be a threat."

"...It's true that it has the power of an unknown god, but think about what it means to be excluded just for that."

 "That's true."

At my remark, Miloslaf shrugged his shoulders slightly and replied like that.

If you think that way, then you shouldn't have aimed for my life in the first place.

As Miloslaf said, the magic stones I have, like the Magic Stone of Sigmund and the Magic Stone of Fyrel, are called 'gifts' and bear the names of gods.

However, the Magic Stone of Elmusca is a name I've never heard before, and I conclude it belongs to an unknown god.

Because of that, even if the powers of Dark Mages' Godslayer work to nullify divine power, this magic stone does not lose its strength.

'Then here's the next question. Tell me the name of Abnella's followers' organization and what their next move will be.'

Miloslaf looked up at the ceiling and said "Ugh..." when I asked him about the most important things.

I guess it was getting hard to answer.

"...I can't tell you any more than that. I'm part of the Romanov Empire's Shadow Corps, so..."

 'Ryuuji, go get Suzu.'

 "Okay, okay. I'll answer."

Miloslaf, looking flustered, took back what he said before.

He'd have to answer anyway if Suzu, the master of the slave magic, was involved.

His Majesty is not very forgiving.

Miloslaf took a breath and said it in a low voice, unlike before.

"The organization is called 'Gualerto'──it means 'horizon' in ancient Romanov. And the next move is──to cause civil wars in the neighboring countries. The Empire is in a hurry to copy the Alchemist's Gun. They don't fully understand how it works yet, but it's only a matter of time."

We were very excited by what the Black Knight told us.
