Volume 4 Chapter 10 If You Want to Fight, I Wish You'd Do It Elsewhere
"Haaa!"
The first strike was Miloslaf's strong overhead swing, but such a big swing is easy to see and dodge.
So, I step back half a step, escaped the path of that greatsword.
Next, the Black Knight moved toward me with lightning speed, stepping forward and launching an upward slash.
...But I had read that move to some extent, so I stepped back again, avoiding the range of his attack.
However, if I kept backing up like this, I would eventually reach Lene and the others behind me, so I couldn't just keep retreating.
Moving to the left side to circle around Miloslaf while staying out of the blade's reach.
"Hey, what's wrong? This is such a boring fight! Don't run away! Come at me!"
The upward swing of the greatsword──just as I expected, it wasn't full of openings, and it came at me in a wide arc, ignoring its own weight.
What kind of power is this, seriously?
I increased my movement speed a bit more, barely dodging that slash──then lightly tapped the belly of the greatsword with my right fist from below.
That impact barely changed the direction of the greatsword, sending it slightly upwards.
"Whoa!?"
"Haha"
Miloslaf, surprised, saw his weapon curve against his will, causing the Black Knight to lose balance.
Exhaling, I planned to step in big with my left foot──
"........."
I pulled my left foot back instead and took a large backstep away from Miloslaf.
A strong, unpleasant feeling washed over me.
"Hey, what's up? That was a perfect chance!"
"What chance? Don't mess with me!"
A grin spread across Miloslaf's face, but I couldn't hide my discomfort and frowned back.
That was close.
If I had stepped in, I probably wouldn't be alive now.
This guy planned to swing his greatsword in a wide arc as soon as I got within range.
However, he instantly stopped when he saw I didn't move forward.
It seems he has not only brute strength but also good judgment.
Damn, his combat skills are clearly way better than mine.
"Oh, you noticed? I was going to chop off your head."
With a clank, Miloslaf shrugged his shoulders.
Even in that heavy armor, he moved with such speed.
This guy is a cultist, and probably──
"...Is this what happens when top-notch sword skills mix with the power of a Mana Crystal?"
The words slipped out of my mouth without thinking.
Using a Mana Crystal, a substance created by Dark Mages with human lives, can greatly enhance physical abilities.
He must be using one too.
But for some reason, Miloslaf frowned at my words.
"Huh? I'm not using any Mana Crystal."
"......What?"
What?
This guy has that kind of strength without a Mana Crystal!?
While I stood there, stunned, Miloslaf sighed heavily and banged his fists on his armor.
"Listen, I just want to fight tough enemies to protect God Abnella with my own trained body. Using a Mana Crystal would be boring!"
"........."
I stood there, shocked by this unbelievable presence.
So, what can I say?
This guy isn't using Mana Crystals or any magic; he's just got a body built to produce that kind of strength.
"Hey, what's wrong? Why so quiet?"
"Just thinking... there really are monsters out there."
"Oh, is that a compliment?"
"Hope you take it that way..."
Watching the laughing Miloslaf, I could only respond like this, trying my best.
My head hurt.
Even the Steel King couldn't break through the Magic Stone of Great Absolute's defenses, but I feel like this guy could slice right through them.
It just feels that way.
If that's true, his sword skills beat Minori's, and his strength is beyond the Steel King's.
No way I, as an enchanter, could take him on.
"...But I have to do this anyway..."
Letting out a small sigh, I focused my Magic Power into one of my magic stones at my waist.
It's called the Shockwave Magic Stone, created in the process of making the Magic Stone of the Distant Bond for ultra-long distance communication.
I have no idea how far this will really go, but I guess I have to take the risk.
"Oh? Used a magic stone, huh? Finally getting motivated? I like that look on your face."
"Shut it, I'm an enchanter! Close combat isn't my thing, so don't complain if I use a magic stone!"
"Hahaha, wouldn't dream of it! I'm actually happy to face a worthy opponent!"
Miloslaf let out a satisfied laugh as I took my stance again.
Seems like I'm worth defeating, huh?
If that's the kind of opponent you want, you should find someone who specializes in close combat.
But, well, he probably won't listen anyway.
Besides, it's his boss's orders, right?
"Alright then, let's restart the fight!"
Miloslaf showed a ferocious expression again, bared his fangs, and charged toward me.
