Volume 4 Chapter 1-2 The Reason for Building Walls
"Well, we caught one of the culprits and checked their weapon. It looks like an Alchemist's Gun, but it lacks the sure-hit ability. It's just a regular gun... Of course, there weren't any ownership stamps or magic on it either."
"No sure-hit ability... Does that mean it can't channel Magic Power into the bullets? But the mechanism for the gun and ammunition must have leaked from somewhere."
I quickly reached a conclusion.
I've heard that the sure-hit mechanism, which is key to the Alchemist's Gun, is quite difficult to make.
"So, this 'gun' is probably a crappy copy of the Alchemist's Gun."
"Even without the Alchemist's Gun with the sure-hit ability, you won't be safe from a shot unless you have the 'Magic Stone of Great Absolute'."
This is a pretty serious situation.
I can understand why they want to limit who visits the town and build a new outer wall.
"But, I'm the only one who can make the medicine for the ammunition, right?"
"Maybe some alchemist has figured out the recipe for the medicine. If you know the method and have the materials, anyone could make it, not just Lene."
"...Yeah, maybe."
I immediately reject Lene's naive idea.
Even if my wife is a genius alchemist who won't let others follow, alchemy is alchemy.
If someone figures out the recipe, they could make it.
"I don't know if Mr. Thor knows about this case, but I'm sure it's been reported to His Majesty, right?"
"Yes. This is not just a problem for the Marquis Burgmüller territory, it's something that could shake the whole country."
"Mr. Thor knowing this much means Lord Reichner trusts him a lot."
By the way, the Marquis Burgmüller territory used to be the former Marquis Beltlam territory. The lord there was executed for falsely accusing a hero, and then he was executed himself. Four years ago, it was the former Marquis Strauss territory, but that one too had a Dark Mage connection and caused a stampede, leading to death.
And now, it's suffering from gun damage, apparently.
Such a cursed land...
"...Well, gun damage is a serious issue, but let's get back to the request. For the outer walls, maybe a 'Magic Stone of Key'?"
I brought the conversation back to the main point, suggesting an idea as an enchanter to strengthen the outer walls.
They probably never heard of it.
My wife, Belle, and Mr. Thor all looked confused.
"A 'Magic Stone of Key'? I've never heard of that... and it doesn't seem like it would strengthen a wall just by hearing the name."
"Well, I agree with you. The 'Magic Stone of Key' works by embedding a specific encrypted Magic Power into an object, making it nearly impossible to destroy unless it's with extremely powerful force. For simple defense, it's far stronger than the 'Great Magic Stone of Diamond'."
I answered Mr. Thor's question with that explanation.
Originally, it was used to protect vaults from being destroyed, but it's perfect for strengthening the outer walls.
"It's amazing that it's even stronger than the 'Great Magic Stone of Diamond'... Can I ask a favor then?"
Mr. Thor's words, full of expectation, made me scratch my cheek while looking up at the ceiling and muttering, "Ah..."
A suspicious look seemed to gather around me, like they were all wondering, "What's wrong?"
"Actually, I've never made that magic stone before..."
"Huh, really? But you know how to make it, right?"
"Well, I do... but there's a problem with the materials. They're really rare."
I sighed and dropped my shoulders.
The material is a type of moss called "Eurika," and I've heard it only grows in the northern Romanov Empire.
"...Maybe I should ask Prime Minister Schnorr for help."
I know the His Excellency Prime Minister is really reliable in times like this.
He's been working on protecting rare species in the country, so he might know if it grows here, just like the 'Heimun Grass' that's used in the Great Magic Stone of Diamond."
