Volume 3 Chapter 44 A Good Example of How Being Trapped by Fixed Ideas Can Lead to Neglecting One's Own Footing
We don't know how His Excellency Prime Minister Schnorr gets his hands on the 'Heimun Grass,' but we can't just sit around doing nothing until it arrives. So, me and Lene have been busy working on a new 'magic stone' research.
And as summer approached, a few days later, while we were working and thinking of our hometown, Sartzstadt, we saw a pile of it in front of us and couldn't help but open our mouths wide in surprise.
"...It's really 'Heimun Grass,' right?"
"No doubt about it.... Plus, we've got the amount we talked about needing before."
"Yes, it's the real deal. It's not just some random weeds we picked."
His Excellency Prime Minister jokes around with a mix of reactions that are hard to respond to, and he seems to enjoy watching our reactions as he laughs happily.
How did he manage to get this material, which can only be picked in the northern part of Goldmont?
Lene takes a bunch of 'Heimun Grass' in her hand, looks at it closely, smells it, and then turns to me with a puzzled expression.
"This 'Heimun Grass'..., I think it was picked around here yesterday."
"That's just silly."
"It's the truth, though."
My wife, who looks like she's about to cry because it makes no sense.
I mean, I'm pretty confused myself.
Seeing us like that, His Excellency Prime Minister says with a wry smile, "Shall we do a little demonstration, then?"
* * *
"I was honored to take office as Prime Minister around early winter last year, and the first thing I tackled was the protection of rare species in the Heisrath Plateau."
I, along with Lene, listened to His Excellency Prime Minister's explanation.
Speaking of that, His Excellency Prime Minister took office after the stampede, didn't he?
"The Heisrath Plateau, huh..."
"It's a plateau located to the northwest from here. It's a place with quite a high altitude, and untouched nature remains there."
His Excellency Prime Minister added some details for Lene, who was trying hard to pull memories from her mind. I didn't know such a place existed.
There are still many things I don't know about this country.
Capital City Raudinger is also located at a relatively high altitude.
After all, the land of Beistein Kingdom is mostly mountains.
It wouldn't be strange if there were plateaus near it that I didn't know about.
"Could it be that the 'Heimun Grass' is──"
"Yes, it grows there."
W-What did you say?!
Lene and I forgot to even speak in our surprise at His Excellency Prime Minister's cheerful words.
I see, we were too caught up in the belief that "the 'Heimun Grass' can only be found north of the Goldmont Kingdom."
But who would have thought that there would be a habitat in the relatively warm Beistein Kingdom?
"After arriving last year, I immediately set out to investigate the Plateau. It was winter, so I asked the investigation team to make a difficult effort, but there are plants that only appear during this season."
"Is that so..."
Prime Minister His Excellency is knowledgeable about plants, isn't he?
somehow, I feel like he's showing me the difference in status as a person and that I'm a little shocked.
But, I have a question.
Why does His Excellency Prime Minister want to protect endangered species?
It doesn't seem like it would be a priority job.
When I asked him that, I was laughed at again.
"After hearing about the two people's performance last year, I felt the possibility of Enchant magic and Alchemy."
"Enchant magic and Alchemy's... possibility?"
It is a very honorable thing, but how does it connect to the talk of protecting endangered species?
"I heard that the equipment developed in last year's stampede, the 〈Magic Stone of Great Absolute〉, used a plant that my country has not found yet called 〈Heimun Grass〉. I noticed that the supply method would become a problem eventually, so I assigned the plant investigation. I didn't expect it to be found in the nearby Heisrath Plateau though.
Prime Minister His Excellency is saying it calmly, but this is exactly the problem that became an issue half a year later.
This must be what they call foresight.
"I am impressed by your sharp insight. Thank you very much for your help."
We bowed our heads, filled with heartfelt gratitude.
Thanks to His Excellency Prime Minister, we're finally on track to make the 〈Great Magic Stone of Diamond〉, which will save the lives of our soldiers.
His Excellency Prime Minister replied, "No, no," like it was nothing, and then clapped his hands, *pon*.
"Oh, yes. I have a list here of plants and insects and stuff that you can find right now in the Heisrath Plateau. If you need them for research, we can send out a team to collect them. Of course, after we finish carrying out His Majesty's orders, though."
"...Thank you for everything."
I thought, "I can't win against this person," and bowed my head again.
Is he perfect? This person is amazing.
Anyway, now we can make the 〈Great Magic Stone of Diamond〉.
We have to get ready quickly and prepare for the battle with Emerada.
