Volume 3 Chapter 40 In Order to Know Her Past
The next day, I set off toward the castle's magic stone workshop to share the manufacturing techniques of the refining magic stone.
I was about to explain everything to the royal palace alchemists and enchanters.
Since I didn't have any knowledge of Alchemy, I could only hand over part of the recipe I got from Lene to the alchemist.
The royal palace enchanter was an older man, probably around ten years my senior.
At first, he clearly had the attitude of, "What can I learn from this brat?" But as we progressed with the work, the tension in his face grew, and I felt his eyes fixed on me with a mix of envy and jealousy.
It was incredibly uncomfortable.
After finishing the job in the morning, I reported back to His Majesty, and he simply said, "Leave the rest to me."
I hoped that this would lead to a swift resolution to the war.

So, with that said, I ventured down into the town in the afternoon and arrived at the Adventurer's Guild.
Of course, my main goal was to investigate Emerada's past.
"I'm Ryuuji, an enchanter of Third Rank from Sartzstadt. I would like to talk to any staff who knew the Adventurers from about 13 years ago."
I headed straight to the reception and made my request to a young female staff member, but she looked at me with a puzzled expression.
"Um... I'm sorry, but due to privacy concerns, we can't disclose any information about the Adventurers."
"...Well, I guess that makes sense."
I shrugged at the familiar reaction, just as I had expected.
An adventurer from another town was demanding to know personal details about someone from the past.
As far as the staff's response goes, it was satisfactory.
However, since I had anticipated this, I was ready with a response.
From my pocket, I took out a dagger still sheathed and silently set it down on the counter.
"This is...! I-I apologize! I'll call someone who knows right away, just this way!"
"Thank you."
I returned the dagger, adorned with the royal emblem entrusted to me by His Majesty, back to my pocket and headed towards the door the flustered female staff member had pointed out.

"Hey, sorry to keep you waiting. You're from His Majesty?"
As I waited in the room I was ushered into, a large man entered, though not as big as I was.
He looked to be in his late fifties, with gray hair slicked back and a prominent scar running down his left cheek.
He was probably a former warrior; his muscular frame showed he had continued to train.
"I'm Ryuuji, an enchanter of the Third Rank, affiliated with Sartzstadt. I apologize for interrupting you, but I'm investigating an adventurer who used to be associated with this place, and I'd like to ask you some questions."
I stood up to greet him and offered a handshake first.
After all, he was making time for me, so I couldn't afford to act arrogantly.
Not that I intended to.
"You sure are polite for someone so big. I'm Wolf, the guild master of the Raudinger Adventurer Guild. Nice to meet you."
His rugged hand gripped mine firmly in return.
It was clearly the hand of someone used to swinging a sword or something similar and forging strength through training.
I pushed the table aside and sat down across from Mr. Wolf, deciding to get right to the point and asked him about Emerada.
"Emerada, huh? That's a nostalgic name. Are you related to that person somehow, or is this just an order from His Majesty?"
Mr. Wolf's eyes bore into me, as if appraising my worth.
He must have heard about me showing the royal crest, but maybe he's making sure it's worth his while to confirm it.
I straightened my back and locked eyes with Mr. Wolf.
I have to find out what happened in Emerada's past, and I need to show him my sincerity.
"Yes, she took care of me and my 2 sisters when we were kids. She taught me how to survive."
"...I see, so she was doing that, huh, that person..."
Mr. Wolf narrowed his eyes, as if reminiscing.
From this reaction, it's clear they weren't just acquaintances.
But then, his gaze sharpened on me in an instant.
It's not murderous, but the intensity is something else.
"Why do you want to know about that person past? Out of your own curiosity?"
I met Mr. Wolf's gaze head-on, shaking my head in denial without a hint of fear.
To be honest, I do have some interest, but I need to know about her without letting emotions get in the way.
"No, it's because she's the reason behind the ongoing Goldmont invasion."
"...What did you say?"
Mr. Wolf raised an eyebrow, showing a hint of confusion.
He must be considering the possibility that I'm talking nonsense, but I need to firmly deny that.
I started explaining to Wolf about how Emerada had become a Dark Mage and was causing chaos in this country.
