Volume 6 Chapter 77-2 Well, He's Airen's Brother and Rolf's Son. He's So Talented That the Enemy Even Tried to Crush Him Before the War Started.

With Irvin's shout, the East Gate opened.

At the same time, the Ice Wolf unit that had been harassing the Empire from behind created an icy jump platform on the ground, soaring over the long line of imperial soldiers.

The Ice Wolf unit that had burst through from the rear now slipped into the open gate.

"Good work, take a brief rest."

Then Irvin, who had been holding back his Ice Wolf unit, shouted "Go!" and released them, closing the gate behind them.

The Ice Wolf unit moved at high speed, once again jumping over the army with their platforms, this time scattering magic as they passed, just to further astound the already bewildered imperial soldiers.

The unit that had leaped over the enemy vanished to the west, following the icy path made by the surprise attack team.

They seemed to come from behind, then break through.

Just as you thought they had passed, they would appear again.

And now, thanks to this exchange, the imperial army had finally noticed the jump platforms, realizing that the South Gate had not yet been broken through.

At the same time, the imperial commander also realized that they had been outmaneuvered by Irvin and Waldner.

In a siege, the gates were not supposed to open to let the enemy in.

Soldiers were not supposed to be divided and fight on multiple fronts simultaneously.

Such obvious assumptions had clouded their judgment.

It was a significant boost that Irvin had used a decoy to reinforce this misconception.

 Plant a decoy.

That is, concentrate the attack elsewhere.

Such preconceived notions had turned the previous surprise attack into a significant threat.

It was the exact opposite of textbook tactics.

A once-in-a-lifetime sneak attack that utilized the gates, the terrain, and the psychological state of the Empire had thoroughly disrupted the imperial army's formation.

But it was a one-time strategy.

Once the trick was known, there was no need to fear it more than necessary.

 "Send an urgent message!"

Just as the empire army was regrouping, a loud howl, "Awoooooon," echoed from behind them like a textbook example.

Alert for another surprise attack, the imperial soldiers cautiously retreated to guard their rear.

 But... nothing came.

 It was to be expected.

The previous howl was also a setup.

The one hidden among the magician soldiers was just a normal soldier, good at mimicking the Ice Wolf's howl.

The Ice Wolf unit that disappeared to the west had dropped off only the men along the way.

Even simple party tricks could surprise the enemy when used together with ambush tactics.

And they had one more job.

 To defeat the messenger.

From behind appeared a magician riding on a sleigh.

A trap that turned the new assumption on its head.

If the messenger does not pass through, the enemy's doubt will grow with time.

 Unaware of such things.

The Imperial Army braced themselves at the sound of the howling, thinking, "It's coming," but nothing actually came.

Irvin would not let that slight gap in their thoughts go to waste.

 "Open the gates!"

Seizing the opportunity, Irvin opened the east gate again.

He had purposely frozen the enemy army earlier to set this up.

 "Charge!"

Out rushed the Ice Wolf unit that had been gathered before.

Were they coming from behind or ahead?

They burned the enemy's vanguard with magic and mockingly returned to the castle gate.

This time, they moved a little slower.

The mocking attack made the vanguard soldiers furious.

 "You little brats!"

Just as a few soldiers tried to charge out, the howl echoed again from behind, and the Imperial Army got ready.

But of course, the Ice Wolf unit was not coming.

"Damn it, what a joke! Heavy infantry, forward!"

The flushed commander took a charging formation.

They intended to cling to the castle gate while avoiding magic with brute force.

 "I'll show you──"

 "Awooo"

At the echoing howl, the commander snapped the baton he held.

 "Ignore the howls!"

Just as the vanguard's specialized charge formation was completed under the commander's orders, the Ice Wolf unit truly appeared from behind.

By the time they noticed it, it was already too late.

Once again, the Ice Wolf unit dealt a heavy blow to the rearguard's magician unit, but this time they did not leave and stayed behind the enemy.

"You! Cavalry, silence those damn mutts!"

Just as the Imperial cavalry turned from their charge formation,

 "Charge!"

At Irvin's shout, Waldner's cavalry surged toward the freshly turned Imperial cavalry.

The reason the Ice Wolf unit was moving slowly earlier was not just to tease.

It was because they melted the ground ice.

A straight line without anything blocking it.

The strong Waldner cavalry charged at the chaotic empire's front.

They scattered light infantry, then burst through the enemy cavalry in a powerful charge.

 The empire's formation completely collapsed.

And behind the cavalry comes... Waldner's strongest Knight unit with thousands.

Wearing heavy armor but moving at terrifying speed, they close the distance and, with a single strike, blow apart the enemy's line.

If such a daring group attacks all at once, even the strongest empire cannot stop the chaos.

The few remaining empire horsemen are blocked by disorderly infantry, and Waldner's speeding cavalry crush the enemy's rear.

At the perfect moment, Irvin leaps into the completely broken empire army's center.

Although not as good as his father Rolf, he is also a fierce warrior known as "The Iron Lance."

He charges into the enemy line with his spear, delivering a dazzling and powerful strike that greatly breaks the enemy's formation.

When a fierce warrior from the Matchless Warriors appears amid the chaos, it becomes almost impossible to stop the situation.

And if that warrior heads straight for the commander, it's even worse.

Irvin cuts down soldiers protecting the commander and makes his spear whine.

That strike pierces through the horse-mounted commander.

The left half of the commander's body is torn open and flies off.

 Blood sprays out.

It's so slow, it feels like time has stopped, as the commander's body slowly falls from his horse.

 ──THUD

A loud sound echoes through the quiet battlefield.

 "Victory cry!"

Irvin, raising his spear, shouts, and Waldner's troops rally with loud voices.

 The shattered army.

 The defeated commander.

 Cheers of victory rising.

Irvin doesn't miss the completely halted empire army.

"Finish them off! Don't let anyone want to step on Waldner land ever again!"

With that cry, the empire army crumbles.

Some flee in a scramble, others try to fight back, and some beg for surrender.

 The sun was still rising.
