Volume 6 Chapter 62 I Thought It Was Done, But It's Different From the Original Goal

With Liz's teleportation, they landed not in the usual hall, but on a cliff somewhere.

The scent of the sea filled the air.

A large lighthouse stood right next to them.

As Randy walked to the edge of the cliff, a breathtaking view opened up before him.

Below, a big harbor spread out.

Beyond that, a vast ocean stretched out.

Small islands dotted the water like accents.

And all of it was painted orange by the setting sun.

Randy gasped at the orange-tinted landscape.

 "This is..."

As the sea breeze lifted Randy's hair, Liz smiled and turned back, saying, "It's our neighbor's place."

 "Neighbor?"

Randy tilted his head and looked back.

He saw the orange-colored Braubelg mansion and the town spread out right below it.

It seemed they were facing the Braubelg estate, separated by the town and the harbor.

 "...This view is amazing too."

In Randy's eyes, the castle and town glowed golden in the sunset.

The beauty made him feel a bit nostalgic.

It wasn't just the scenery; it was also Liz's expression next to him.

"Ellie said to go to a place with a good view."

The sea breeze played with Liz's hair.

Liz, looking a bit lonely, tucked her silver hair behind her ear, glowing in the sunset.

"A place with a good view..."

Randy gazed at the Marquis mansion across from them.

The roof there must have the best view.

It seemed Liz was thinking the same thing, as they both stared at the Marquis mansion across the town.

The castle, lit by the sunset, still looked beautiful in orange.

It shone as if guiding them, but Liz shook her head.

"They must be busy right now..."

Liz, concerned, probably wanted to return to the Braubelg estate right away to see Lucian and the others.

But she knew they were busy dealing with the [Pilgrim of Truth], so she gave up on visiting her family for now.

Their activities were being reported even at Braubelg.

Still, compared to the kingdom's direct territory where bombings and attacks on important people are reported, the town of Braubelg looks quiet and peaceful from here.

As night approaches, people hurry home, and lights begin to flicker on, but there is no sign of fear from terrorism.

(It must be thanks to His Excellency, Sir Cedric, and the efforts of [Dark Tide].)

Watching the calm yet lively town, Randy heard Ellie, who had switched places with him, say, "It's time to go."

"Going is fine, but where to?"

Randy tilted his head, and Ellie whispered, "Leave it to me," pulling a staff from thin air.

 "Wait a moment..."

When Ellie struck the ground with her staff, a wave-like energy spread across the ground.

It traveled down the cliff, across the port, and all the way to the other side of the sea.

 "That's the place."

Ellie pointed to one of the small islands visible across the sea.

From this cliff, it looked like an ordinary little island, but if Ellie said there was a dragon hole there, it must be true.

 "A small island..."

Randy murmured, feeling curious since he had seen it earlier.

It wasn't the Church's former estate, but for a small island of that size, it seemed perfect for hiding.

"Don't worry. They said they checked all the islands."

Randy sighed in relief at Liz's smile, saying, "That's true."

"But still, we need a boat to get there, right?"

"No. I've been to that island before, so it's fine."

Liz, with her fists clenched, explained that was why she switched places.

 "What a coincidence!"

Randy was surprised, but he thought it was better to go along with it, so he decided to aim for the island again with Liz's teleportation.

* * *

When the light of teleportation faded, Randy saw rugged rocks and a small altar in the center.

Looking around, he noticed the remains of weathered walls.

Randy understood that this was some kind of ruins made inside the island.

 "Let's go check that out."

Randy approached the altar as Liz prompted him, and he noticed a round, boulder-like rock sitting on top of it.

 "What's this?"

Randy tilted his head, and Liz explained that it might be a remnant of an ancient spirit belief.

It was from before the current Church was organized, from the time when Ellie and others were alive, or even earlier.

"In Braubelg, this round ball has been said to be the egg of the ruler of the seas, Leviathan."

 "That's a big name..."

Even Randy had heard of the name before.

Of course, it might just be a rock that looks like it, but among Braubelg's sailors, it's been said that the calm seas near the coast are thanks to this relic.

 "So, what's up? Great magician──"

"It's more or less as Liz says."

Ellie nodded and added that it was definitely made to wish for safe navigation.

"But... there seems to be another intention hidden in it."

Ellie snorted with dissatisfaction and said that the magic circle and runes carved on the altar seem to serve as a device to gather and spread the collective unconscious of the people.

"I see. So they used an ancient ruin to do this."

"Or maybe they built it for that reason, hiding their real purpose."

"Either way, it's like a minion of the cave, right?"

Randy raised an eyebrow, and Ellie nodded in agreement.

Randy understood that if the [Cave of Saint] was a cloud server, then this place was like its base station.

The collective memories of Saint stored in the cloud (cave) were spat out as the unconscious from the base station (the dragon's lair relic) and, as they matured among the people, were saved back into the cloud through the base station.

"So, we're not just dealing with the dragon's lair, but we've got usable material right in front of us."

Ellie also laughed with a bad face as Randy made a bad face.

 "Alright, let's rewrite it quickly."

It was originally a disgusting system meant to tailor Ellie's soul to someone's liking.

By rewriting it, Randy, Liz, and Ellie, none of them would have to feel any pain.

With her mind made up, Ellie climbed onto the altar at the island's center, pulling out a sheet of paper and raising her staff.

Drawn on the paper was a magic circle.

Ellie placed it slowly onto the sphere, then told Randy to hold it down.

As her assistant Randy hurriedly pressed the paper's edges, Ellie lifted her staff and began weaving magical power.

"Lightning becomes the brush, carving truth upon the earth.

Shadow becomes the ink, the power of spirits beyond time.

Gather the crests of legends, the rings of contracts, the lines of guidance──all truths bound as one.

Assemble, great form that inscribes the heavens.

Let the hidden truth manifest here and now──

 [Spirit Brush Manifestation]!"

 Ellie's staff glowed, transforming into a giant, brush-like shape──

"Huh? Uh... this won't kill me, right?"

 Nobody answered Randy's question.

 "Inscribe upon the earth──"
