Volume 6 Chapter 58-2 It has Arrived. It's Their Turn
To Dario, it felt like Edgar and Arthur, always drowning in jealousy, were the real ones going crazy.
Not that Dario didn't understand how they felt.
Even he sometimes regretted not being kinder when he saw Cecilia becoming more and more beautiful. And now that Catherine—supposedly freed from her brainwashing—was back to herself, she looked more attractive than ever.
But even Dario had to admit: those two had gone way overboard.
Sure, missing your ex makes sense.
But what Edgar had? That wasn't regret. It was obsession.
And maybe it rubbed off, 'cause now Arthur was getting just as weird.
The way they were acting... it was more disturbing than anything Chris had said.
(Yeah... maybe the kingdom really is falling apart.)
Thinking about ruling the country someday with these two, Dario let out another sigh.
"Haaah..."
Just as he let out that big sigh, someone sat down right behind him on the bench.
For a second, Dario thought it was dark side again—but he'd just walked off.
Must be some random tired person. Dario started lowering his head back down—
"Don't move."
A voice cold as ice whispered behind him.
Dario froze. He'd started to turn around—but fear locked him in place.
"Who—"
"Don't speak. They'll notice."
The voice was fast and sharp. Definitely a man.
Without even turning Dario's way, the guy muttered, "Nice weather," like it was small talk.
Then he stretched with a yawn, and whispered just loud enough for Dario to hear.
"Stay silent for 'yes.' Sigh once for 'no.' Got it?"
Dario answered with silence.
He knew dark side had people watching nearby—but since they hadn't reacted, they hadn't noticed this man.
If he made a scene now, he'd be dead before help arrived.
Dario wasn't dumb. He could tell—this guy behind him was dangerous.
Right now, all he could do... was listen.
"You're Dario Weissman."
Dario stayed silent at the man's words.
"A lady will walk by soon. She'll drop a handkerchief. Pick it up and give it to her. Got it?"
The man stood up, satisfied with Dario's silence, and walked away.
When the man's presence faded, an old woman passed in front of Dario.
Just as the man said, she dropped a handkerchief.
"...Lady, you dropped your handkerchief."
Following the man's instructions, Dario picked it up and called out to the old woman.
Surprised, the woman thanked him, saying it was made by her grandchild, and took the handkerchief from his hand.
Dario noticed the paper left in his hand right after that.
He didn't ask the old woman about it as she walked away.
This is what it meant, he thought.
He was to secretly pass some information.
That seemed to be the man's goal.
Dario hesitated for a moment but then stuffed the paper into his hand and sat back down on the bench.
To avoid suspicion, he just waited.
Even now, the dark side was probably watching him, waiting for Dario and the old woman to disappear.
He merely felt the paper in his fingers, bent just enough not to hold too tightly.
After taking his time, Dario stretched and left the park.
He headed to the Duke's residence where he was staying with his father.
He walked slowly, enjoying the peaceful town streets.
Naturally, he slipped his hand into his pocket, making sure to keep the paper hidden.
He tried to calm his excitement and even stopped at a café along the way.
Dario's calmness came from Chris, no doubt.
The strange feelings he had before now turned into distrust of the country.
A warning message from a human about the dark side has arrived.
He is the heir of Central Nobility, known for being talented at the academy.
He has no reason to stay calm.
After refreshing himself at the café, Dario finally arrived at the grand mansion. He greeted the servants as usual and smoothly disappeared into a private restroom.
His visit to the café was just a setup for this moment.
The letter he opened contained news...
That Edgar and Arthur are connected to the "Pilgrim of Truth."
"...That's ridiculous."
Dario scoffed, crumpled the paper, and tossed it into the toilet, flushing it away.
It was true that the two friends were acting strangely.
But Dario wasn't going to believe a letter from a stranger about them.
But...
"That handkerchief's crest... it belongs to the Empire, right? I remember my dad saying there were reports about cults in the provinces connected to the Empire..."
Dario's murmur was drowned out by the sound of running water.
"That's just silly. If they really were connected, why wouldn't they reveal their identity──"
──the kingdom will end.
Suddenly, Chris's voice echoed.
His words, the memo's content, and the meaning of the Imperial crest all came together in Dario's mind.
"...Are you telling me... no, are you telling my family to betray the kingdom?"
As if to emphasize his words, the toilet let out a creepy "gurgle" as it swallowed the waste.
