Volume 6 Chapter 55-2 When Stuck, Do Something Else
"The theory is completely different. It's so outside my field that I just don't get it at all."
Ellie shrugged, but it's impressive that she was able to analyze even a part of that totally different technology in just a few days.
After all, Randy finds it completely confusing, even after hearing the explanations.
The only thing he could understand a little is that Ellie and her team have some starting points for analysis.
"Are you saying you're analyzing that different technology by relying on things like Runes and magic circles?"
"Yes."
Ellie nodded, but she explained that those things are all complicated and tangled together, so they can't easily be figured out.
"The embedding of the spell techniques, the structure of the gate, the way energy is supplied── even those basic things are all made with advanced calculations."
Upon hearing Ellie's words, Randy turned back to the teleportation gate and said, "No way."
It just looks like a child stacked 3 building blocks to make it.
It's hard to believe that it's created based on such advanced calculations, but that's how it is.
To an ancient great magician, it seems like a perfectly functional beauty that has been meticulously calculated.
The width of the gate, its height, and even the width and size of the materials used── all of these were made with advanced calculations.
"Well, I don't really get it, but it sounds like there are still a lot of things we don't know."
With Randy's comment, Ellie let out a big sigh.
"But, if we can receive signals both ways, then wouldn't we be able to teleport to the source?"
"That's impossible."
Ellie, frowning, said that the two-way reception is only meant to connect when they modify this sub-device and create another sub-device.
Since they don't know the frequency or coordinates of the main device's 2-way receiver, accessing it from here is almost hopeless.
"I see. If we could get over there, then we could even bring the main source back."
"If that were possible, it would be easy..."
"But, it wouldn't be fun, would it?"
Randy laughed, and Ellie widened her eyes for a moment but then nodded and said, "That's true."
If they had the main device, they could use it to progress the analysis a lot faster.
In fact, they might even be able to create the same sub-device and deploy it in various locations more quickly.
But that would be boring.
Right now, Ellie and Liz are working on a new teleportation gate based on the theory of old teleportation gates.
There are new ideas that come up precisely because there are no answers.
That is the real fun of it, and that is what makes it enjoyable.
"Leave it to me. Once we get the chance, Liz and I can make a new teleportation gate."
Randy nodded big as he said to Ellie, "Then I'll leave it to you."
The modification of the receiver part will also help prevent further interference from the main unit.
It's hard to believe they would use a teleportation gate that should be at the bottom of the water, but they still want to use the dream door they've carefully obtained for something fun.
"Now then..."
Ellie tilted her head and asked, "What's up?" as Randy clapped his hands.
"It seems like we've reached a stopping point, so I was thinking of taking a little break. I'll be back pretty soon, though."
Randy, with a wry smile, told Ellie that he wrapped up most of the notes, but Ellie looked a bit dissatisfied upon hearing it.
Seeing Ellie like that, Randy grinned and patted her head, saying, "Don't look so lonely."
"I-I'm not feeling lonely!"
Ellie hurriedly looked up, but Randy showed a smile and said, "Is that so?"
"I'm not! Without my assistant, things are going to slow down."
Making a face, Ellie heard Randy pout and say, "Whatever."
"Come on. If you're going, hurry up and go."
With her cheeks puffed out, Ellie watched as Randy shrugged and opened the door, looking around.
He was searching for a specific person, but it seemed like they weren't in the visible area.
"Maybe at the workshop?"
"If it's at the workshop, it's probably at the dwarf boy's place."
"Yeah. I feel like I should get the greatsword done properly soon. I'll go to the master's (Gaston) place."
From Randy's magic bag peeked a dragon horn that Liz had only shaped into a sword at the [Tower of Time].
Personally, he really liked how it looked, but the balance and center of gravity were quite off.
That's because it was only shaped by an amateur, so it couldn't be helped.
Since he didn't know what might happen from now on, he thought it would be better to prepare his swords in advance.
"By the way, I also want to talk about the Rune press for the geothermal heating equipment."
"Aren't you coming back right away?"
Randy shook his head, saying that wasn't the case, but when 2 engineers gathered and started talking about something new, it could lead to an all-nighter.
"I changed my mind. I want to go with you."
Randy smiled as he looked at Ellie, who puffed out her cheeks, and he said, "What's wrong, are you lonely?"
"N-no! I just want a little change of pace, and maybe there will be something that gives me a hint."
Randy peered at Ellie, who was trying to convince herself, and said with a grin, "Hmm."
"And if you're not there, I won't know where the notes are."
Ellie nodded repeatedly, and Randy laughed, saying it couldn't be helped as he extended his hand to her.
"Well then, my lady, shall we go?"
"Yes. You're quite the gentleman."
Taking Ellie's hand, Randy and the others moved away from the slightly stuck teleportation gate to go enhance their weapons.
