Volume 6 Chapter 53-2 Interlude - Epilogue

The grinding sound of Horace's back teeth echoed in the room, and as it reached its peak, he changed his expression to a lowly grin and said, "I'll show you something."

Horace, who had unleashed a chimera like a centaur, ran out of the lab with it and arrived at an open area that looked like a hall.

 "Someone──"

When Horace raised his voice, a few people dressed in black, like the execution team of the [Pilgrim of Truth], appeared.

"Take the chimera and go cause some trouble in Hartfield. This is just a warm-up for the large-scale proselytizing activity that will start soon."

Horace pointed at the teleportation gate in the corner of the hall with an ugly smile.

They seemed to understand what that meant.

The black-clad figures silently led the centaur to the teleportation gate and walked toward it.

"Even without Gardner, you still have a blade at your throat."

In front of Horace, who was chuckling softly, the black figures fumbled in front of the teleportation gate.

 "...? What are you doing!"

When Horace shouted, the black figures reported that the other side of the gate was a wall and they couldn't pass through.

It seemed to be a wet wall, as one of them was still sticking his arm into the teleportation gate and tilting his head.

 "A wet wall...?"

The place Horace remembered where the teleportation gate was located was a dark, narrow cave.

It was true that one side was narrowed, but it shouldn't have been a wall.

Just as Horace was pondering this, one of the black figures said, "We can just enter from the other side," turned off the teleportation gate, and went around to restart it.

 "A wall... wet?"

Feeling a chill from the strangeness, Horace yelled, "Wait!" but it was already too late.

Just when one of the black figures passed through the teleportation gate, a large amount of water suddenly flooded into the hall.

 "Stop it!"

Horace screamed to stop the teleportation gate, but there was no way it would be in time.

The rushing stream swept away the black figures and the centaur, and Horace hurriedly deployed a protective barrier... but the force overwhelmed even Horace and swept him away along with the barrier.

Horace, who used magic, stopped the teleportation gate from activating when the basement flooded completely, the chimeras were swept away, and various research materials were destroyed.

* * *

Several days later... Victor Territory, a new town magistrate's residence.

Liz is sitting on the sofa reading a letter and her face is happy.

"You look happy. Is there some good news?"

Randy sat down on the sofa with a cup of coffee, and Liz showed him the letter, saying "That's right."

It was a letter from Cecilia, which contained Luke's confession with joy written all over it.

 "Huh. That guy..."

Randy, who is grinning, feels the same way Liz does.

Somehow, he showed off to the girls, and for some reason, puffed up his chest and picked up the newspaper on the desk.

"By the way, there was a letter for Randy in the envelope too."

 "For me?"

Liz showed Randy a letter from Luke.

"Sir Randolph, thank you. I will follow you for life. What?"

Randy, who was grinning while looking at it, suddenly changed his expression.

He crumpled the letter, threw it on the floor, and sat down on the sofa with a sour expression.

As Randy opened the newspaper, Liz picked up the crumpled letter and opened it.

 And what was written there...

──What? When will you show me your manhood?

 ...It's a short but typical Luke-like sentence.

It feels strange because you can almost see Luke grinning while writing the letter.

Ellie got her body back... Luke knows that, but he deliberately said this now.

It's a kind of provocation, "Don't be scared, you coward."

That's why Randy crumpled it up and threw it away.

And he's still reading the newspaper and muttering complaints.

Liz smiles "Hehe" at this typical relationship between the two, and slowly stretches the crumpled letter.

 "Ah──this is..."

Randy suddenly spoke, and Liz sat next to him and asked, "Did you find any interesting article?"

 "This"

What Randy pointed at was a small article in the society section.

'In a town in the southern part of the empire, water overflows from a mansion. Is it a burst water pipe? In the overflowing water, creatures from the great river were also confirmed.'

Seeing such a headline, Randy showed a wry smile and said, "Is this...?"

"It's probably because of the teleportation gate sunk in the river."

Randy, who exchanged looks with Liz, who also showed a wry smile, couldn't help but burst out laughing.

"W-Wait, we shouldn't laugh at this."

"No, we can't help but laugh."

Imagining the scene of water flowing backward from the teleportation gate, Randy started to laugh.

 "That's why I said we shouldn't laugh."

"Ah, well. It's funny to see something like this in the morning, so let's get pumped up and do our best today."

Throwing the newspaper aside, Randy stood up.

"Fine. I'll just sink it to the bottom of the river."

Accompanied by Liz, who puffed her cheeks, Randy left the room.

It would still be a little while before the two, or rather 3, would share their thoughts like Luke and the others.
