Chapter 5 The Identity of the Beautiful Girl

Chapter 5 The Identity of the Beautiful Girl

After that, Yuruyana tried putting in some different materials with various hardness and sizes, and they all turned into the right coarse powder.

Her face lit up, bright as if she could replace the sun.

"It's really fixed! I'm so happy!"

Seeing a beautiful girl nuzzle against the hard surface of the Arcane Machinery like she was with a pet or child was quite a strange sight.

Still, I felt glad to see her so happy just for doing what I could.

"Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I can keep working!"

I was amazed by Yuruyana's soft smile as she squinted her golden eyes.

I found myself surprised before I could even be entranced.

It had been a long time since someone thanked me.

"By the way, how much do I owe you?"

Yuruyana snapped back to reality when she noticed me staring and hurriedly pulled out her wallet.

"Oh, I don't need it. It wasn't that hard."

"That won't satisfy me! You fixed an important tool for my business!"

"Even if you say that, I don't know the repair prices..."

I thought I might find out by checking the store's accounts, but those papers were probably at my family home.

 Then,

"My master told me not to make debts with others...!"

 So that's the truth.

Watching her clench her fist on her knee, looking frustrated, I thought for a moment and suddenly came up with an idea.

"Then, could you make some medicine for me?"

An Arcanopharmacist is skilled in combining potions and magic to create more effective medicines.

And even high-level Arcanists, who can usually manage most things with magic, rely on potions when healing serious injuries or illnesses.

Therefore, skilled pharmacists are in high demand, and when it comes to nobles, the prices are so high that commoners cannot afford them.

They say they only work a few times a month and live elegantly.

"If I can make it, that's fine. What kind of medicine do you want?"

"Sleeping medicine. Something that lets me sleep deeply without dreaming all night."

"...I see. You certainly have big dark circles under your eyes."

Yuruyana took another long look at my face, then seemed to understand.

She pulled out a paper from her bag and clipped it to the board, starting to write something smoothly.

"Is the symptom insomnia? How long has it been like this?"

"Um... it started about half a year ago."

"Really? So it's like you can't sleep, and when you do, it's not deep?"

"Also, I keep having nightmares. Bad memories from my old job keep coming back."

 "...Could it be psychological. Hmm..."

Yuruyana groaned, resting the end of her pen on her chin, her long eyelashes drooping.

"Is there a problem? Like, are we out of ingredients?"

"No, I think we have enough for one dose with what we have on hand."

I tilted my head, wondering what the problem could be.

Maybe the cost was too high?

"The thing is, this mixture is incredibly bitter."

Remembering the taste, Yuruyana answered with a twist of her beautiful face, not caring about spoiling her looks.

But I just nodded, thinking, Is that all?

"That's fine. Ever since the insomnia started, I can't taste things anyway."

 "Isn't that even worse!"

Yuruyana slammed the clipboard she was holding onto the floor with a loud thud.

Then she noticed what she had done and picked it up slowly.

She definitely has the mannerisms of a cat.

"...Well, if you don't mind the taste, then let's make the sleeping potion with this mixture for today. Maybe your sense of taste will come back as your health improves."

 "Yeah, thanks for the help."

As she straightened the prescription paper that had bent when she slammed it down, Yuruyana glanced up at me from under her eyelashes.

"By the way, I haven't asked your name, Mr. Helper."

 "Tsukumo. Tsukumo Kreis."

"Mr. Tsukumo, then. ...Mr. Tsukumo, may I ask something inappropriate? Is there another room in this house where I could stay?"

 "Huh?"

"Since it's a custom-made prescription, I'd like to make sure it works properly."

 "...What's your real reason?"

"I haven't decided where to stay tonight."

With a chuckle, Yuruyana tilted her head, her refined demeanor making me quietly marvel at how she's probably lived her life so far.

"Of course, I really do want to confirm the effects too."

"You weren't trying to make a move on me, were you?"

"When I heard your symptoms, I didn't think it could be fixed in one go. I'll make it for you for free instead of a place to stay."

The arcane medicine is expensive, so this isn't a bad deal.

But, I had one thing on my mind, so I decided to tease a little.

"Having a girl stay over is a bit... If strange rumors start, it would be bad."

If Luka finds out where I am, it wouldn't be strange if an old colleague comes to check on me.

If they see me with a beautiful girl in my new home, who knows what they'd say.

 "I see, that's a thoughtful concern."

 Yuruyana nodded obediently.

But then, in the next moment, her golden eyes sparkled like she was hunting prey.

 After a brief cough,

"Don't worry! I've kept quiet until now, but I'm a man!"

She declared loudly in a voice an octave lower, puffing up her flat chest.
