Volume 2 Chapter 4 Hero Party, Training Retreat with the Guildmaster

After leaving Guildmaster Act, Lawrence and the rest of the Hero Party found themselves in a specialized training facility in the Royal Capital.

 "Phew..."

Standing on the training room's ground was Ulgar, a strikingly handsome young man with silver hair.

His long hair was tied back, and he gripped a wooden spear tightly in his hand.

 "Shh...!"

The thrust he unleashed split into a thousand shimmering replicas.

Not only was it fast, but the razor-sharp thrust pierced through the wall of a distant room.

 "AMAZING, ULGAR!"

Rushing towards him was Eli, a pretty boy with a delicate appearance who specialized in magic.

"TO LAUNCH A THOUSAND THRUSTS AT ONCE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE!"

"Haha! What do you think? This is my [Thousand Piercing Spear]! It seems I've transcended human limits yet again!"

With a flourish, Ulgar tossed his hair dramatically.

 "You're really something, Ulgar."

"I noticed you've been all fired up with special training since you came back. Did something happen?"

Mida, the archer girl, and Luna, the healer, said, impressed.

"Speaking of which, Ulgar, I heard you went to see Act."

 "Ah..."

At Eli's words, Mida and Luna nodded as if everything clicked into place.

"So, you got motivated by the Guildmaster AGAIN!"

"Seriously, the Guildmaster is so kind. He cares about us even after we leave."

"I KNOW! I WANT TO BE STRONG, GENTLE, AND COOL LIKE THE GUILDMASTER!"

All of them had graduated from Act's guidance to become members of the Hero Party.

They understood the kindness of the person who had always supported them from behind.

 "Hmm! It seems everyone's gathered!"

Their leader, the young hero Lawrence, approached them.

"Self-training before our official training begins? Impressive, Ulgar!"

"Heh...! Well, yeah! But, Lawrence!? What are you doing here?"

 "Hmm? Is something wrong?"

 Lawrence was... floating in mid-air.

 "Flying magic?"

"That's not it, Eli! I'm running in the sky to train my leg strength, you see!"

Everyone's faces turned a shade of blue.

"I've always wondered, how are you doing that?"

"It's simple! First, do a light jump"

 He landed once, then BOING!

 jumped up again.

"And just before your body starts to sink, quickly kick your right leg forward! And before your right foot starts to fall, quickly kick your left leg out! That's how you run in the air! Easy, right!"

"No way I can do that!"

"You can do it! Come on, Ulgar, if you can't do it by lunchtime, no food!"

 "Can I...really...?!"

Lawrence chases after the fleeing Ulgar.

 "Let's just do normal training."

 "You're right."

The rearguard team did magic power training, learned new spells, and practiced their teamwork.

 "Whee...! Haa...! I can't...!"

 Ulgar collapsed to the ground.

"What's wrong!? You can't run in the air!"

 "Because...that's...only...you can do it..."

 Ulgar, drenched in sweat, collapsed.

"If you collapse from something like this, you'll lose against a stronger enemy!"

"No...I'm strong enough already. You saw my Thousand-Strike Spear, right?"

"Hmm! That was impressive! But what if an enemy appears who can unleash a million strikes at once? What if it was a billion!?"

 "No way...that's just a monster..."

Lawrence picked up a wooden sword.

 "Hmm..."

He drew his sword in an upward stance, and swung it down as if it were nothing.

At that moment... not just the building's wall, the entire building was half-destroyed.

 "WHOA! THAT WAS...DANGEROUS!"

Eli quickly becomes a gravitational magician, and it touches the collapsed building...!

 stop.

 "WHAT ARE YOU DOING, IDIOT!"

Luna went to a broken building to restore the building, and in a flash it returned to normal.

 "WHAT?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

The answer to the shocked Ulgar was... not Lawrence.

"He wielded a wooden sword 100 million times."

A young man with dark hair stood at the entrance to the building.

 "GI, GUILDMASTER!?"

 "Mr. Act! You're so quick!"

Lawrence runs towards Act with a dazzling smile.

 "MR. ACTTTT!"

He was moving at an incredible speed, almost surpassing the sound barrier.

But Act perfectly anticipated Lawrence's movements, twisting his body to sidestep him.

 BOOM!

Lawrence smashed into the building wall, shattering it.

"Ugh, another one? You really gotta stop breaking things!"

Luna instantly repaired the wall with a flash of restorative magic.

"My party is made up of some weird folks, huh? You can fix a wall in an instant? And an extra sturdy material, too, I heard!"

Ignoring Ulgar, the rest of the party members gathered around Act.

"Guildmaster, long time no see! It's so good to see you again!"

Eli rushed towards Act and hugged him, giggling as she rubbed her cheek against his.

 "You look healthy."

 "Yes!"

"Hey, hey, Eli. You're so sneaky. I wanted to... I mean, I wanted to... Guildmaster..."

Luna poked her index finger together, stuttering.

"Hey, hey, sis? You're totally crushing on Guildmaster, aren't you~?"

"N-no! I-I mean, you already know I like Guildmaster!"

 "H-huh!? I-I'm not... I mean, it's not like that..."

Lawrence emerged from the rubble and shook Act's hand.

"From today forward, thanks for your help, Act!"

Ulgar's face turned pale as he nervously asked,

"L-Lawrence...? What are you talking about? Does this have something to do with Guildmaster being here?"

 "Yes! Everyone, listen up!"

Eli and the others turned their attention to Lawrence, confused.

"Our Hero Party will be starting a training camp today!"

 """"Training camp?""""

The group tilted their heads in surprise at the sudden announcement.

"We're planning to invade the Demon King's territory! But we can't win as we are now! So we've decided to ask Act to train us!"

"No, you can win, right?! The leader is a monster that slashes 100 million times in an instant!?"

 Then Act sniffs, sniffs.

"So, what will you do if Lawrence were to become incapacitated?"

 "Uh, that's..."

 Hah!

The Hero Party, including Ulgar, are suddenly brought to attention.

"Oh yeah... Lawrence is strong, but as for the rest of us... we're not quite at his level yet."

"If multiple enemies show up who can match Lawrence, we're totally screwed..."

Everyone breaks out in a cold sweat.

Meanwhile, Ulgar is shaking his head.

"Nonsense! There can't be many creatures like that out there, can there? You guys...!?"

"But Mr. Ulgar, there's a lot we don't know about the enemy's strength. What if the Demon King was an even worse monster than Mr. Lawrence?"

 "Uh, that's... certainly true."

Ulgar, who has never once won a mock battle against Lawrence.

The thought of him being an ally is comforting, but what if he were the enemy...?

The mere idea sends shivers down their spines.

"We need to level up even more. That's why! I've asked Act to train us!"

 "Yay!"

Everyone, including Lawrence, breaks into smiles.

"I'm so happy! To be trained by the Guildmaster again!"

"Yay, yay... oh, but... is the Guildmaster okay with it? They must be busy..."

"We're super lucky, but there are others who want training too, and it feels wrong to hog all the attention."

 The girls' team asks nervously.

"Don't get the wrong idea. It's not for your sake. It's to defeat the Demon King and raise the reputation of MyGuild."

Their eyes go dot-dot-dot, but they all burst into laughter regardless.

"As expected, Mr. Act is kind and wonderful, a guardian angel!"

"Yes! The best Guildmaster ever! I... I love you!"

Gyu-, Lawrence and Eli cling to Act.

"Ah, if only I had the courage to say that..."

"Good luck, sis. You've got a lot of rivals."

Meanwhile, Ulgar is shaking his head vigorously.

"A TRAINING CAMP!? IF WE PUSH OURSELVES ANY HARDER, WE'LL DIE! LITERALLY DIE!"

Then Act snorted, his expression dripping with sarcasm.

"No need for half-hearted saps to join in, right?"

"How rude...! I'll show you! Just you wait!"

"That's the spirit! Aim for the [Billion Spear]!"

It seemed he was referring to the one-million times stronger version of the Thousand Spear.

 "N-No way... that's a bit much..."

"What's that? Can't even handle that much? And you call yourself a Hero's buddy?"

"I-I can do it! I'll show you! ...I hope I can..."

Under Act's guidance, by the next day, Ulgar had mastered the Billion Spear!
