Volume 2 Chapter 3 TheVillainous Guildmaster, Sends the Hero's Companion Away, Saying It's Too Early
One day,
while I was busy working at the guild, a visitor suddenly burst in.
"GUILDMASTERRRR!"
The one who stumbled in, tears streaming down his face, was a strikingly handsome guy with long silver hair.
It was Ulgar, the spear-wielder of the Hero Party.
"What brings you here, you?"
"I'M QUITTING THE HERO PARTY! PLEASE HIRE ME BACK!"
"No way. It's too early for you to come back."
"W-WHAT!? WHY?!"
With a bang, he slammed his hands down on my desk, leaning in aggressively.
"YOU MUST BE RUNNING AWAY BECAUSE LAWRENCE'S TRAINING IS TOO TOUGH OR SOMETHING LAME LIKE THAT!"
"WHAT!? HOW DO YOU... DO YOU HAVE APPRAISAL EYE OR SOMETHING?!"
"I don't need it to know."
Gripping my arm tightly, Ulgar pleaded,
"COME ON! THAT BRAIN-DEAD MUSCLEHEAD HERO WILL DO ANYTHING IF YOU ASK HIM! JUST TELL HIM YOU WANT ME BACK!"
"No."
"W-WHY NOT?!"
"You were the one who left to join the Hero Party in the first place. Now you want to come back? Isn't that a bit unfair?"
"Grr... Well, that's because... um..."
Now then, maybe he's coming soon.
"Well, if you really insist, I might be willing to consider it."
"R-REALLY!? YAY!"
Just then,
"NOT HAPPENING, ULGAR!"
Suddenly, a tall man with blonde hair appeared at the window.
"GAH...! LAWRENCE!"
With a little hop, he jumped down from the window frame──this country's hero, Lawrence.
"LONG TIME NO SEE, ACT!"
"GET IN THROUGH THE DOOR, YOU IDIOT!"
"SORRY! BUT I RAN HERE THROUGH THE SKY! I THOUGHT COMING STRAIGHT THROUGH THE WINDOW WOULD BE FASTER!"
"YOU DON'T RUN THROUGH THE SKY, BUDDY!"
Ulgar, looking frightened, slipped behind me.
"COME ON, ULGAR! HEAD BACK QUIETLY! TRAINING IS WAITING FOR YOU!"
"I, I DON'T WANNA! I'VE ALREADY QUIT THE HERO PARTY, OKAY!?"
"NO WAY! I DON'T RECOGNIZE YOU! GRUMBLE!"
Lawrence made a gesture as if to grab the very space itself, and with a whoosh...
he pulled it towards him.
"EEEKKK! AAAAHHHHH!"
Suddenly, Ulgar was yanked away, landing right in Lawrence's grasp.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME!? MAGIC!?"
"I used my fighting aura to strengthen my hand, slicing through space to draw the target in."
"YUP! THAT'S RIGHT! AS EXPECTED OF MR. ACT! KEEN INSIGHT!"
"YOUR LEVEL'S TOO HIGH, EVEN AN EXPLANATION DOESN'T MAKE SENSE! LET, LET GO OF ME!"
With a clatter and ruckus, Ulgar thrashed about, but Lawrence remained unshaken.
"COME ON, LET'S HEAD BACK! WE'VE STILL GOT A BILLION MORNING PRACTICE SWINGS LEFT!"
"THAT'S WHY THE NUMBERS ARE ABSURD! I'M GONNA DIE! I'M SERIOUS!"
"DON'T WORRY! I DO THE SAME THING AND I'M NOT DEAD YET!"
"DON'T PUT ME IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS A SUPERHUMAN, PLEASE!"
They're still bickering, huh?
What a waste of time.
"LET'S GO!"
"I DON'T WANNA! I'VE COME BACK TO THE GEM OF HEAVENLY GIFT, OKAY!"
"Huh? Is that so?"
With a pop, Lawrence released his grip.
Ulgar crawled over and got up next to me.
"YEAH! THE GUILDMASTER WAS SO INSISTENT ON HAVING THE BEST SPEAR WIELDER BACK THAT SHE CRIED AND MADE IT REALLY AWKWARD FOR ME!"
He flicked his...
silver hair as he spoke.
"WHAT! THAT WAS IT! I'M SORRY, MR. ACT! LET ME RETURN THE FAVOR!"
Lawrence offered his hand with a smile.
"Geez, you'd really say anything if it's the Guildmaster listening."
"INDEED! THE GUILDMASTER IS MY BENEFACTOR!"
Both Ulgar and Lawrence had once belonged to this Gem of Heavenly Gift.
The rough gems I nurtured and polished are now shining all over the world.
"No need for gratitude. I raised you lot for my own sake."
I spread out the newspaper that was lying on the desk.
"LAWRENCE HERO PARTY, REPELLING ANOTHER HIGH-LEVEL DEMON AGAIN!"
"[DEMON KING'S COUNTRY] - PREPARE FOR INVASION! COULD WORLD PEACE BE ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE!?"
"To the man closest to exterminating the Demon King, Hero Lawrence, we ask: What are the secrets of the Adventurers Guild [Gem Of Heavenly Gift] THAT RAISED HIM!"
"The more they shine, the higher [Gem of Heavenly Gift]'s reputation rises."
"In the end, I could say they raised them all for me."
"But the Demon King's Country, eh? So you're finally going to dive headfirst into enemy territory."
