Volume 2 Chapter 3-2 The Villainous Guildmaster, Sends the Hero's Companion Away, Saying It's Too Early
"YES! I'VE BEEN PUTTING YOU THROUGH SOME TOUGH TRAINING TO PREPARE FOR THAT!"
"Tough training? I THOUGHT YOU WERE TRYING TO KILL ME!"
We have to storm the Demon King's castle and take him down; only then will peace return.
But the Demon King's territory is undeniably hostile, swarming with demons and monsters even worse than what we've faced before.
If we don't level up our skills, we'll be the ones getting killed.
"Let someone else who wants to take down the Demon King deal with it. I can't handle any MORE OF YOUR TRAINING! THE GUILDMASTER SAID HE'D LET ME STAY HERE, SO GO FIND SOMEONE ELSE!"
"Hmm... Well, if Act really wants Ulgar, then I guess there's no helping it. We'll have to search for someone else. But will we even find anyone?"
"YEAH, YEAH, JUST GO ON HOME!"
With a lonely smile, Lawrence turned on his heel.
"Wait, Lawrence."
I called out to the Hero, who had stopped in his tracks.
"I actually have someone in mind to replace Ulgar."
"WHAT! REALLY, ACT!?"
Lawrence's face lit up with a big smile.
While Ulgar looked off with a perplexed expression.
"Yeah. It's a woman named Rozelia, and she's a phenomenal swordswoman. Unlike that spear user we know."
Ulgar perked up at that.
Lawrence tilted his head, but then nodded in understanding, "OH, I SEE!"
"OH! ROZELIA OF THE CRIMSON ROSE! INDEED, SHE COULD MORE THAN TAKE OVER FOR ULGAR!"
Ulgar reacted again, his interest piqued.
"That woman is incredibly capable. Not only is she strong, but she has a great personality too. She's nothing like that spineless coward who bailed on the mission."
"Spineless... haha, Guildmaster, is that me you're talking about?"
Ulgar's expression darkened, veins bulging at his temples.
"Who else would it be? YOU CAN'T EVEN HANDLE BASIC TRAINING WITHOUT WHINING!"
"I-I'M NOT SPINELESS!"
"Really? I wonder about that. You ran away, after all."
"UGH...!"
I ignore Ulgar and say,
"Lawrence. Stop wasting time here and get back already. I'll send Rozelia to you later."
"YEAH! SOUNDS GOOD! SEE YOU LATER, ULGAR!"
Lawrence starts to leave.
MEANWHILE, ULGAR CALLS OUT, "WAIT...!"
"What is it, Ulgar?"
"Are you seriously planning to take Rozelia with you?"
"YEP! THAT'S THE PLAN!"
"Shouldn't you reconsider...? A girl as a vanguard? That's just impossible."
"MR. ACT SAID [ULGAR'S SPOT CAN BE FILLED JUST FINE]! SO IT'LL WORK OUT!"
Ulgar looks at me, clearly anxious.
"W-WHAT ABOUT THE GUILDMASTER!? ROZELIA IS THE TOP ADVENTURER HERE, RIGHT? WON'T IT BE A PROBLEM IF SHE LEAVES?"
"Not really. We can find a replacement."
Ulgar grits his teeth in frustration.
"My Guild stands for [helping the weak]. It's okay, Ulgar. You can always come back. Because this is a Guild for weaklings like you."
Ulgar bites down harder, his lips trembling.
"I'LL LEAVE THEN! TO HELL WITH THIS GUILD!"
Ulgar raises his voice and points a finger at me, snapping...!
"BECAUSE! THIS ULGAR IS NOT WEAK!"
"Oh? Those are the words of a coward who ran away from training?"
"I DIDN'T RUN AWAY! I JUST CAME TO CHECK UP ON MY OLD GUILD! I WAS WORRIED THAT, WITH AN IMPORTANT PERSON LIKE ME GONE, IT MIGHT CRUMBLE!"
"No need to worry. Even without a nobody like you, my Guild won't shake."
Ulgar's face turns red, and he stomps his feet in frustration.
"YOU JUST KEEP MOCKING ME! JUST WAIT, GUILDMASTER! SOON, MY SPEAR WILL PIERCE THE HEART OF THE DEMON KING!"
Ulgar glares at me and turns on his heel.
"COME ON, LAWRENCE! LET'S GET BACK TO TRAINING! WE HAVE A MISSION TO DEFEAT THE DEMON KING! NOT A SECOND CAN BE WASTED!"
"OH! ULGAR! LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE GETTING FIRED UP! THAT MAKES ME HAPPY!"
"Hmph," Ulgar turned away and left the room.
Lawrence, left behind, grinned at me with a cheerful smile.
"AS EXPECTED OF ACT-SAN! YOU REALLY UNDERSTAND ULGAR'S PERSONALITY! IF YOU PUT IT THAT WAY, HE'LL GET FIRED UP AND TRAIN EVEN HARDER!"
"What are you talking about? I just stated the facts. The current Ulgar would be killed by the Demon King. It'd be a waste to go."
Lawrence chuckled softly.
"The 'current' Ulgar, huh? It seems Act-san believes in his talent more than anyone else."
"Of course. Who do you think scouted him? He's a rough gem that can match even you in talent."
Standing before me, Lawrence straightened his waist and spoke.
"MR. ACT, THANK YOU! YOU'VE GOT ULGAR MOTIVATED. WITH THIS, IT SEEMS LIKE WE CAN REACH THE DEMON KING EXTERMINATION!"
"I see. I'm looking forward to it."
"YES! THEN, SEE YA!"
THUMP...!
And with that, Lawrence leaped out of the window and flew off into the sky.
