Volume 2 Chapter 2 Evicting the Villainous Guildmaster to His Proper Place
One day, in the Guild[Gem of Heavenly Gift].
In the Guildmaster's room.
"[Silm]. I'm expelling you from this Guild."
The young boy, Silm, standing before me, widens his eyes.
"Wh-What...? Why?"
"It's simple. You are an unnecessary asset to this Guild."
"Unnecessary...? But... I've been trying my best for this Guild..."
Silm looks like he's about to cry.
"Indeed, you have contributed to the Guild. But that's a separate issue."
As the Guild's leader, I must sometimes make ruthless decisions.
"Me...fired? So what am I supposed to do from now on... I'm..."
Looking like a stray dog, Silm, slumped over, and I tell him.
"[Ainz Knight Order] has a position prepared for you. Go there."
"Me...? I'm not learned, and I don't even have a home... Wait, what?"
Silm's mouth hangs open in disbelief.
"Uh, now, what did you say?"
"I said the Ainz Knight Order wants you."
"Ainz Knight Order...? THAT'S THE STRONGEST KNIGHT ORDER IN THE COUNTRY...!? HOW...WHY...?"
To Silm, who is surprised and confused, I say.
"Your [Holy Knight] skill is very useful as a wall – strong defense and the ability to take damage for allies. That's perfect for the Knight Order."
For example, if someone tried to assassinate an important person, with the Holy Knight (Silm) there, they could defend them.
"I also helped you develop your healing skills, so you're perfect for guarding important people."
"Guildmaster...you're preparing such an amazing position for me..."
He starts crying, really getting into it.
Maybe it's the shock of being expelled.
But I have to be ruthless.
"...Being called a 'wall decoration' and unjustly kicked out of my previous party... even having my childhood friend stolen away... I was completely lost and helpless. You cheered me up and helped me grow this much... and now even a Knight position in the Royal Guard..."
The guys in my Guild all have their baggage.
This guy was kicked out of his previous party, you know.
"Why...why are you so kind to me? Why do you go so far?"
"Don't get the wrong idea. This isn't for you. It's for me."
"Eh...?"
"The more you shine as a Royal Guard Knight, the better the Guild's reputation becomes. This is a strategic move. Don't mistake it for kindness."
Silm's eyes widen, then she lets out a wry smile.
"You know, our Guildmaster is such a kind person, right? He even pretends to say things like this to make sure I don't worry about leaving."
It's not really like that, though.
Silm wipes her tears and looks at me with a bright smile.
"I ACCEPT THIS OFFER WITH GRATITUDE!"
"Alright. I'll let them know. Head to the Royal Capital once you're ready."
"YES!"
"And don't forget to claim your moving expenses. You'll also receive a severance pay. Be sure to apply."
"UNDERSTOOD! GUILDMASTER, THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'M TRULY GRATEFUL!"
Silm smiles and walks away from me.
"He's truly something, isn't he, Master?"
Frederica, who had been waiting behind, appears at the perfect moment and places a cup of tea in front of me.
"Getting a position in the Royal Guard Knight order isn't easy at all."
"Edward wanted a talented Knight, and now we can recommend you. Silm will shine brightly, and her reputation will rise as well."
I take a sip of the tea.
"It's true, you're just looking out for your own interests... why do they all seem so grateful to me? I don't understand."
Frederica smiles wryly.
"Master, perhaps you need to understand this... your actions bring happiness to others more than you realize."
"Hmm... who'll be next?"
Knock, knock, and Room are knocked.
"Excuse me, Guildmaster♡"
The one who entered was Rozelia, the number one Adventurer of Gem of Heavenly Gift.
"I apologize for calling you during such a busy time."
"No worries♡ For the Guildmaster, I'd rush here in a heartbeat, no matter what."
Rozelia of the Crimson Rose, she was known by 2 names, and for good reason.
She was a famous Adventurer.
Requests piled up on her daily, an insane amount.
"So, what can I do for you?"
"I'll keep it brief."
I looked at her and said,
"Rozelia, I'm expelling you from this Guild."
* * *
S-Rank Adventurer, Rozelia.
She had contributed greatly to this Guild.
"You've done well. But, it's about time you left the Guild and shone elsewhere."
I gave Frederica a signal with my eyes.
*DON!*
A file as thick as a dictionary landed on my desk.
"Countless places are vying for you."
"M-me...so many people need me...?"
Rozelia widened her eyes and looked at the file from afar.
"Yeah. The one I think is best for you is this one."
I flipped through the file and handed her a request.
"The Hero Party of the neighboring country... is that it?"
Hero Party.
Elite chosen by each country for Demon King extermination.
"That country is forming a new Hero Party for Demon King extermination. They've prepared a Hero position for you."
"Hero...me, a Hero..."
Rozelia's swordsmanship already surpassed that of ordinary people.
"Besides her incredible combat strength, her personality and leadership skills are top-notch. You are worthy of being a Hero."
"I'm honored. It's all thanks to the Guildmaster's training."
Rozelia smiled and returned the request to me.
"Thank you for your kind offer, but I will have to decline."
Deeply, Rozelia bowed her head in front of me.
"Why should you refuse?"
"I still have things I need to do here."
"What is it?"
"It's this, Guildmaster. I want to repay my debt to you."
Rozelia placed her hand on her chest, smiling as if reminiscing about the past.
"You were the only one who treated me kindly, even when I was called a wicked noble and cast out of the country after my engagement was broken. That was you, Guildmaster."
She stepped closer and took my hand, adding earnestly,
"The nasty rumors don't matter. What I want is... for you to see me as I truly am, not through prejudice. You have no idea how much you saved me."
With a smile that blossomed like a flower, she continued,
"I want to wield this sword by your side, for you. I want to repay you for your kindness."
Sigh... here we go again.
"I see. Then you'd better shine even brighter. Serve me well."
"YES, OF COURSE! ♡ Right away!♡ By the way..."
Rozelia leaned in closer, smiling mischievously.
"How about we have dinner together this weekend? I've booked a fancy restaurant and a hotel, just the two of us, with a view of the night skyline..."
"Ah, okay, okay. The master is busy. Please, just leave ALREADY!"
Frederica tugged at Rozelia's arm, trying to usher her out of the room.
"W-WAIT! I was inviting the Guildmaster on a date..."
"The master is extremely busy. There's no time for dates. Please get going. Bye~!"
Frederica shoved Rozelia out the door and let out a sigh.
"I will protect the master from crisis, as a devoted attendant."
Frederica puffed out her chest proudly.
I honestly had no idea what was going on.
"But master, if you had said, 'Go out there as a hero and repay your debt to me,' wouldn't she have accepted her exile quietly?"
"Perhaps."
But I didn't want that.
"After all, master, you're so kind. You leave the decision of whether they accept their exile up to them in the end."
"Don't get the wrong idea. Shilum wanted to be a Knight. But Rozelia wasn't like that. Even if she had the aptitude, without the drive, sending her would be a waste. She wouldn't be able to give it her all and it would end up being futile."
I take a sip of my tea and say,
"If that happens, it reflects poorly on my recommendation. That's why I withdrew the exile. In the end, it's for my own sake."
"Heh heh."
Frederica chuckles as she tidies up the discarded files.
"What is it?"
"Oh, it's nothing... I was just impressed by your villainous guildmaster act today, as always."
"You're not making fun of me, are you?"
"Not at all, I assure you. I adore that gentle side of yours."
