Volume 1 Chapter 7 The Villainous Guildmaster, Begged by the Hero Party

Volume 1 Chapter 7 The Villainous Guildmaster, Begged by the Hero Party

In my (Guildmaster's) room, one day.

"Thank you very much! Mr. Act! I'll do my best in the New World!"

Today, I gave another member a New Job and expelled them.

He bowed his head repeatedly and left the room.

 "That's amazing, Sir Act!"

Standing next to me is Yui, my disciple.

She has a distinctive look with her smooth, blonde, short-cut hair and blue, round eyes.

"To make so many people happier than ever before, Sir Act, you are such a kind person! I... I Respect you!"

"Kind? Let's stop with the unfair assessment."

"No, Sir Act is kinder than anyone else! I... I love that about you, Sir Act!"

Somehow, she seems to misunderstand me as a kind person.

Yui is still a child, so her ignorance is unavoidable.

"By the way, are there any people who leave without being expelled by Sir Act?"

Perhaps because she is watching me expel Guild Members, Yui, who was curious, asked me that.

"Oh, there are quite a few who find their next place and voluntarily leave the Guild."

 "Doesn't Sir Act stop them?"

"I don't chase after those who leave. If they do well in a new place, it will eventually benefit me."

I see... Yui nodded in admiration, and then, it happened.

 *Kyuuu...* her stomach rumbled.

 "S-sorry..."

 "Let's eat."

 "Is that okay?"

"Yeah. It's less efficient to have your mind clouded by hunger."

"Sir Act... you are kind after all!"

I took Yui and left the Guildmaster's room.

I was going to go back to the mansion and eat, but the entrance was unusually noisy.

 "Oh, isn't this the Guildmaster?"

The one who came to me was a man with lustrous silver hair.

 "[Ulgar]. It's been a while."

 "Who is that?"

"I'm one of those who voluntarily quit the Guild that I mentioned earlier."

 I say, looking at Ulgar.

 "What brings you here?"

"Now that I've finally finished moving, I came to show off my recent achievements!"

The Guild members gather around us, looking intrigued.

 "What are you doing now?"

"Hehe! Prepare to be amazed, I'm now part of the Hero Party!"

 Oh...!

The Guild members erupt in excitement.

"The Hero Party... that's the strongest unit selected by each country to exterminate the Demon King, right?"

"Exactly! I have become a chosen one... an elite! Unlike you all!"

The Guild members frown, feeling annoyed.

"You can brag about it, Guildmaster. My student has been chosen as a member of the prestigious Hero Party!"

 "That's true."

"Thanks to me, the Guild will reach even greater prosperity! Everyone, you should be grateful to me~!"

Then one of the Guild members raises their voice.

"Hey, don't get carried away. The Guild is thriving because of Act!"

"If it weren't for Act picking you up and raising you, you wouldn't have made it into the Hero Party!"

"You should be more grateful to Act!"

 Hmph, Ulgar snorts derisively.

"Grateful? Why? The only reason I got into the Hero Party is because of my incredible potential, right? Why should I thank the Guildmaster?"

"You...! Letting you say that is infuriating! Guildmaster, please say something!"

 I nod and say,

"Ulgar is right. The reason you got into the Hero Party is your own ability. I have nothing to do with it."

 "Wha...!?"

Everyone is staring wide-eyed for some reason.

"See? Did you hear that, everyone? I'm amazing! Unlike you all!"

With a triumphant smile, I look around at the Guild Members.

"Ah, I feel so refreshed after bragging! Well then, everyone! I'm going to shine as a member of the Hero Party, so you should graduate from this lame Guild quickly!"

Waving his hand lightly, Ulgar tries to leave.

 "Ulgar"

"What is it, Guildmaster? You're not going to tell me to come back now, are you?"

"No matter what happens, don't give up halfway."

"Hmph! I won't need you to tell me that. Adieu!"

* * *

Two weeks later, in my (Guildmaster's) room.

"GUUILDMAAASTER! PLEASE! LET ME COME BACK!"

Ulgar is bowing deeply in front of me.

"I'M DONE WITH THE HERO PARTY! PLEASE LET ME RETURN TO THE GEM OF HEAVENLY GIFT!"

"...What happened all of a sudden? Explain yourself."

To summarize, it goes like this:

 - He eagerly joined the Hero Party.

 - However, the training was so intense that he couldn't keep up.

"DAY AFTER DAY OF HELLISH TRAINING! It doesn't feel heroic at all! WHAT WAS THE POINT OF JOINING THE PARTY?!"

"Isn't it to defeat the Demon King and bring peace to the world?"

"NO! It's OBVIOUSLY to be pampered!!"

 "...Wow."

 Yui says, somewhat taken aback.

"PLEASE, GUILDMASTER! LET ME COME BACK!"

 He clings to my desk.

"Looking back... this place was the BEST! I only realized it after leaving!"

I look down at Ulgar and say,

 "...No."

 "WHAAAT!? WHY NOT!?"

"It's too early to give up. You can still do your best in the Hero Party."

 It was then—

 SLAM!

 The door bursts open.

"HMM! SO YOU THINK SO TOO, ACT!"

Entering the Guildmaster's room was a tall man with blonde hair.

"Wow...! IT'S THE HERO, LAWRENCE! The real deal!"

 Yui says, her eyes sparkling.

As expected of a Hero, his fame is high.

 "HIIIIIIII! IT'S HEEEEREEEE!"

Ulgar screams, his face pale as if he's seen a ghost.

 "ACT! LONG TIME NO SEE!"

 Lawrence grins as he approaches.

 "You look well."

As Hero Lawrence gets closer, he beams proudly.

 "YOU KNOW THE HERO!?"

 Yui's jaw drops.

"Yep. It's not just that—he used to be a member here."

 "W-W-WHAAAAAAT!?"

Both Yui and Ulgar shout at the same time.

"I-I DIDN'T HEAR ANYTHING ABOUT THAT...!"

"I didn't ask because it never came up."

Lawrence had been a member since the founding of this Guild.

He honed his skills under my guidance, and eventually left to become a Hero.

"So, what brings you here today?"

 I ask.

"I'VE COME TO BRING BACK THE PARTY MEMBERS! WE'RE LEAVING, ULGAR!"

 "NOOOOOOOOO!"

With tears streaming down his face, Ulgar throws himself at my feet.

"PLEASE, GUILDMASTER! I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THIS HELLISH TRAINING ANYMORE!"

"You need to defeat the Demon King with the Hero. It's natural to have intense training every day."

"THIS IS GOING TOO FAR! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! GUILDMASTER! I WANT TO GO HOME! I WANT TO COME BACK HERE!"

Ulgar cries out like a child.

"You forgot your debt to Sir Act and left on your own, and now you want to come back? THAT'S TOO MUCH!"

 Yui crosses her arms, frowning.

 "Ugh...! W-WELL, UM..."

I pat Ulgar on the shoulder.

"I don't really care about you leaving."

"THEN... THEN...! CAN I COME BACK!?"

 "That's not allowed."

Suddenly, Lawrence steps in closer and grabs Ulgar by the shoulder.

"NOW! IT'S TIME TO GO BACK AND TRAIN!"

 "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Still in tears, Ulgar is dragged out of the room.

"I'll step out for a bit,"

I say as I throw on my cloak.

 "Going out?"

 Yui tilts her head.

 "Yeah. To the Hero Party."
