Volume 1 Chapter 45-2 The Villainous Guildmaster and Those Who Were Rejoiced 6
"YOU... FOOL! I'M THE ONE WHO KICKED YOU OUT! AND YOU WERE TRYING TO SAVE ME NOW?"
"Don't get me wrong. You were a terrible Guildmaster, but your sword talent was the real deal. I was thinking of picking you up and putting you to work... but never mind."
He scoffed.
"It's a waste of time to help a useless old geezer like you."
"Useless... old geezer, huh...?"
A simmering rage began to boil inside him.
To be talked down to like that by a guy younger than him... it pissed him off!
"Though, if you grovel and beg, I might let you into the Gem of Heavenly Gift. You'd start by making tea for me, though."
"...Don't you dare joke around."
"What was that?"
"DON'T YOU DARE JOKE AROUND...!"
Irankus glared at Act, his face contorted.
"Who... who the hell needs help from a brat like you...!"
He jabbed a finger at Act.
"I WON'T LET THIS BE THE END! ONCE I'M DONE WITH MY SENTENCE, I'LL COME BACK HERE AND RESTART AS AN ADVENTURER FROM SCRATCH!"
Up until a moment ago, he felt like a deflated water balloon, his spirit completely crushed.
But now, he was brimming with the fury of wanting to get back at Act.
"JUST YOU WATCH! WITH MY GENIUS SWORDSMANSHIP, IT'LL BE A PIECE OF CAKE TO BECOME THE TOP ADVENTURER AGAIN!"
Just then, a wagon bound for the mines arrived.
"WHEN I'M AT THE TOP AGAIN, YOU'LL REGRET NOT TAKING ME INTO THE GUILD... TOO LATE THEN!"
He knew it.
These were tears of frustration.
He could see it in Act's eyes.
He... was pitying him.
This guy, younger than him, had everything he wanted.
And to be pitied by such a young punk... it was so frustrating, so infuriating, he could hardly stand it.
"I see. I'll be waiting."
"TCH! SUCH A COCKY BRAT! JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON'T LET THE GUILD FALL APART BEFORE I GET BACK!"
Irankus was escorted by a Knight and shoved into the back of the wagon.
And with that, they left the town... off to the coal mine.
The dark, festering desire for revenge against Act was gone from his heart.
Now, he was overflowing with the will to prove himself.
After the carriage carrying Irankus disappeared, Act sighed.
"Impressive, Master."
He turned to see Frederica, his maid, standing there.
Act brushed past Frederica and headed back towards the town.
"You truly are a kind soul. To offer a hand and even encouragement to your former superior, even though he wronged you..."
If Act hadn't given him a kick in the butt, Irankus would have given up on life long ago.
He might have even offed himself while working in the coal mine.
Frederica thought that maybe, just maybe, Act had foreseen that future.
That's why, at the very end, he'd helped him out with his own brand of kindness.
"Don't get any ideas. I just wanted to boss him around and vent my frustrations. It's a shame he refused."
Frederica, his attendant, knew that wasn't Act's true feelings.
He was deliberately goading him, so Irankus, who had settled his past, could start walking forward again.
"I truly respect your merciful and generous heart."
Frederica chuckled softly.
This young man was just too good-natured for his own good.
Even if it was someone who'd exiled him, if they were a vulnerable person with nowhere else to go, he'd extend a helping hand.
That was the Guildmaster of the [Gem of Heavenly Gift], the Guild for the exiled who sought to save the weak.
"What's so funny?"
"No... I just thought, once again, that you're the best Guildmaster ever."
Hmph, Act snorted.
"Don't be stupid. I'm the Villainous Guildmaster of the Adventurers Guild."
Then Frederica burst out laughing, and after a moment, she said:
"I'm dying to know, where exactly is the villainous side of you, the kindest person ever?"
