Volume 1 Chapter 26 The Exiled Healer and the Foolish Hero [Vulcan IV]
"YOU'RE STRIPPING ME OF MY TITLE AS HERO!? YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME! THIS HAS TO BE A MISTAKE!"
Vulcan headed toward the royal castle, attempting to enter.
"What are you doing? Outsiders are not allowed!"
But he was stopped by the guard who stood watch at the castle gate.
"WHAT!? YOU'RE SAYING I'M AN OUTSIDER!? GIVE ME A BREAK! I'M THE HERO! HERO VULCAN IS HERE!"
"The King has given orders. You are no longer a Hero."
"NO WAY... THAT'S A LIE... ARE YOU PULLING MY LEG?"
"This is no joke. You have been stripped of your title as Hero."
The guard spoke to him with a dismissive tone and a cold stare.
It was not at all the kind of attitude one would expect from a Hero.
"GET OUT OF HERE."
"NO... I DON'T WANT TO... NOOOOOO!"
Half-crazed, Vulcan tried to run towards the castle.
But he was blocked by two guards.
"WAIT! WAIT A MINUTE, YOUR MAJESTY! GIVE ME BACK MY TITLE AS HERO! PLEASE!"
"Get lost! If you cause any more trouble, we'll throw you in jail!"
"NO! I'M A HERO! YOUR MAJESTY! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!"
"You're being a pest!"
One of the guards jabbed Vulcan in the solar plexus with his spear.
"UGH!"
He fell to the ground, vomiting.
"YOU ARE NO LONGER A HERO. YOU ARE AN OUTSIDER, NOW SCRAM!"
"No... I... am a Hero..."
The young guard snorted.
He looked down at Vulcan with contempt.
"What's a Hero? You're just a big talker, weak as dirt."
Vulcan and his party had failed many quests after Luna left.
That bad reputation spread throughout the country.
"Where is the Hero who is making the people uneasy? Even though you are a Hero, you keep losing battle after battle."
"That's not... not now... because she's not there..."
"Is it the responsibility to shift this time? It's not Hero. Go home, ordinary people. I'm not calling you anymore."
The guard forcefully made Vulcan stand up, took him to a spot away from the castle gate, and threw him down.
"GET LOST ALREADY. IF YOU COME BACK AGAIN, I'LL TOSS YOU IN A CELL WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT."
"Ugh... damn it..."
When the guard left, the people nearby, having heard the commotion, began to pay attention to Vulcan.
"...It's Hero Vulcan..."
"...Seems he's been dumped..."
"...I don't like him; his arrogant attitude was just too much..."
"...Getting fired like that is pretty pathetic..."
The surrounding scornful glances burned into him.
"DAMN IT! WHAT THE HELL! I PROTECTED YOU ALL! NOW THAT I'M NOT A HERO, YOU TURN YOUR BACKS ON ME! DAMN IT! DAMN IT!"
Vulcan screamed, but not a single person apologized or showed him any sympathy.
"I am a Hero! I really am!"
But no matter how much he shouted, nobody would recognize Vulcan as a Hero now that his title had been stripped away.
Coupled with his usual arrogant demeanor, the looks cast his way were cold and unforgiving.
"DAMN IT!"
...Afterward, the news of Vulcan's expulsion spread like wildfire through the Royal Capital.
He faced tremendous backlash from society for losing his Hero title.
"Ha ha... it's all over now..."
Stumbling aimlessly, Vulcan looked gaunt and ghostly, almost as if he were a walking corpse.
This was because he had lost his girlfriend, Mary.
After being stripped of his title, when he returned to his companions, he was viciously berated by Saint Mary.
"You're worthless now that you're not a Hero. Goodbye."
"W-WAIT, MARY! DON'T GO!"
Losing his Saint and his status as a Hero,
he couldn't return home to his relatives who knew him as the Hero he boasted about.
If he stayed in town, he'd just be ridiculed as a useless Hero... he was out of options.
"Luna..."
The name that slipped from his lips was that of his childhood friend.
Looking back, she was the one who had always cared most for him.
He found her nagging to be bothersome, but looking at it from another angle, it was out of concern for Vulcan to get his act together.
"LUNA! LUNA! I'M SO SORRY! LUNA! PLEASE COME BACK TO ME! LUNAAAAAAAAAAA!"
...But even if she's told to come back now, it's far too late.
She will never return.
Because she has already started a happy new life in a new place.
