Volume 1 Chapter 21 The Fate of the Foolish Nobility [Zaltchim]
Thanks to the Guildmaster Act's efforts, the former noblewoman Katrina was rescued.
Meanwhile, Zaltchim...
"Damn it! Get me out of here! Who do you think I am?!"
He was locked up in a cell at the Knight's station.
Arrested for attempted murder and assault, based on the physical evidence provided by Act.
"I'm Zaltchim! A proud noble of the Empire! Damn it! You put me in a place like this—it's like a pigsty!"
His fists slammed against the bars with a dull clang.
"My father will be here soon to set me free! With his power, it'd be easy to have you country minions all fired!"
This man showed absolutely no remorse.
"That's right, with my father's influence, it'll be a piece of cake to socially ruin that little Guildmaster. Just you wait, Act... I will definitely eliminate you! You'd better be ready...!"
...But this was as far as his arrogance would take him.
A few days later.
"Zaltchim. I'm exiling you from this house."
Zaltchim's father stood before the cell, staring down at him with eyes as cold as iron.
"W-What did you just say, Father...?"
"I said I'm sending you away. Erasing your existence from this family. You foolish son."
He sighed, the sound heavy with disappointment.
"I-I don't understand... Please! Get me out of here! And crush that foolish Guildmaster!"
"YOU FOOL!"
"Gah...!"
Zaltchim staggered back, dropping to his knees.
"Who do you think you're challenging?!"
"Challenging? That's just a Guildmaster, isn't it?"
"DO YOU NOT KNOW THE UNSPOKEN RULE OF STAYING IN THE SOCIAL CIRCLE, TO NOT OPPOSE ACT AGE?! WHAT AN IGNORANT FOOL YOU ARE."
Zaltchim stared, his mind struggling to catch up.
"W-What nonsense are you talking about, Father? They're just a commoner!"
"...Act holds a wide influence both domestically and internationally. There are countless important figures connected to him. If we go against Act, our family may lose its noble status."
The color drained from Zaltchim's face. For the first time, fear sank its teeth in.
"Is that so...? Does he really wield that much power?"
"You have been written off from the very start. This is to protect the family. Zaltchim, just disappear."
"Ah... ahaha... I hope that's just a joke, father... right? ...Hey? ...Hey. Hey!"
He grabbed the bars, fingers white-knuckled as they gripped the iron.
"WHY!? HAVE I DONE SOMETHING WRONG!?"
No hint of understanding shone in his eyes. He truly believed he hadn't.
"...Enough. Just the thought that this is my son makes me sick."
His father turned away, boots striking hard against stone.
"WAIT, FATHER! FATHERRRRRR!"
Zaltchim reached through the bars, hands clawing for anything, anyone.
"I'LL CHANGE! I WON'T LAY A FINGER ON ACT AGAIN! SO PLEASE DON'T ABANDON ME! I'M BEGGING YOU!"
"It's too late. Farewell, foolish son. Go wherever you wish... and die in the gutters."
The footsteps faded.
"No! NOOOOOOOO!"
His scream echoed down the cold, empty corridor. And then... nothing.
