Volume 1 Chapter 20-2 The Villainous Guildmaster, Reclaiming the Woman from the Foolish Noble

Just then, the ogres charged at them.

However, Act remained calm, covering one eye with his hand.

 "LOOK OVER HERE, YOU DEMONS!"

Act activated [Unique Time Complete Stop (Evil Eye)].

All the ogres that had been focused on attacking Katrina froze the moment they saw Act's eye.

 THUD!

A massive number of ogres dropped dead in an instant.

"W-Wow... Guildmaster... to take down so many big ogres like this..."

Blood flowed from Act's left eye.

 "Guildmaster... you're bleeding..."

"It's nothing for you to worry about."

 "Ugh... sniff... WAAAAAH!"

 Katrina cried out loudly.

 Act silently patted her head.

 And then, at that moment.

 "MASTER, I'VE BROUGHT IT."

A gigantic wolf descended from the sky.

 It was Frederica, the Fenrir.

She had Zaltchim in her mouth.

"EEK! ARE YOU GOING TO EAT ME!? WHO DO YOU THINK I AM?!"

Frederica dropped Zaltchim at Act's feet.

"Now, Zaltchim. You did something terrible to my Guild Members."

Act looked down at him coldly as he lay collapsed in the dirt.

"Unjustly breaking off an engagement. Not only did you hurt her with magic, but you also left her behind as monster bait. That's a serious crime."

"W-WAIT! THE OGRE INCIDENT WAS UNAVOIDABLE! IT WAS AN EMERGENCY... WAIT, WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?"

"I said you hurt her with lightning magic, Frederica."

She tossed the Communication Magic Item she had been carrying to Act.

 "TH-THAT IS..."

"It's a Communication Magic Item. It was connected to my call. Of course, your heinous actions were perfectly recorded."

 Zaltchim's face drained of color.

"N-NO WAY! IT CAN'T BE THAT THE CALL WAS CONNECTED THE WHOLE TIME!"

"You can think what you want. I'm submitting this to the Knight."

 "W-WAIT! WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!"

Zaltchim crawled toward Act, desperation written all over him.

 "THAT'S BAD! STOP IT!"

"Then apologize properly to Katrina and swear you'll never show your face again."

He crouched down in front of Katrina and bowed his head.

"I DID SOMETHING TERRIBLE TO YOU! I'M REALLY SORRY! I PROMISE I WON'T APPEAR BEFORE YOU AGAIN!"

"So you admit that you used lightning magic to punish her and intentionally made her a decoy for monsters?"

"YES, I ADMIT IT! I'M TRULY SORRY! PLEASE, JUST DON'T SUBMIT THE EVIDENCE!"

 Katrina looked bewildered.

 Meanwhile, Act smirked.

"Zaltchim, you just admitted it, right? I recorded that perfectly."

 "...HUH?"

"I didn't capture evidence of you actually punishing her. But the scene where you admitted your guilt is saved right here."

Act had used his ability to read the past, picking up on Zaltchim's cruelty from Katrina's wounds.

But that alone wouldn't count as physical evidence.

However, Act had been recording the apology scene using the Communication Magic Item.

"Without evidence, the Knight can't catch you."

 "Y-YOU...! YOU PLOTTED THIS!"

Zaltchim lunged at him, but Act dodged easily and struck him in the cheek.

 BAM!

Zaltchim spun through the air and crashed to the ground.

"I'll be submitting this evidence to the Knight."

 "GRR... YOU... SCOUNDREL..."

 "Yeah. That's right."

* * *

 Days later, in Act's room.

"I'm really... sorry, Guildmaster... for causing you trouble..."

Katrina stood before him, head bowed.

His left eye was out of commission for a while, wrapped in a curse scroll.

"Don't get me wrong. I just didn't want some random nobody taking my popular receptionist."

After that, he had submitted the evidence to the Knight.

Zaltchim was arrested for attempted murder.

The official decision was still pending, but it seemed he would be stripped of his noble title.

 "Thank you... Guildmaster..."

"So, what are you going to do now? Your resignation hasn't been accepted yet."

She pulled it from her pocket and tore it to shreds.

"Please let me stay here from now on!"

"It's none of my business. Besides, I haven't accepted it anyway. Get back to work already."

Katrina bowed deeply, then... kissed him on the cheek.

"I love you. More than anyone else."

Blushing furiously, she rushed out of the room.

 "As expected of you, Master."

Frederica, who had been lingering quietly like a houseplant, finally spoke.

"There's no rule that you have to submit a resignation directly, yet you saw her true intentions and deliberately chose not to accept it, didn't you?"

"Don't get it twisted. Like I said earlier, I didn't accept it because I'd have trouble if our popular receptionist left and sales dropped."

 Frederica smiled softly.

"You don't really care about money at all... Truly, you are a compassionate and the best Guildmaster ever."
