Volume 1 Chapter 18 The Villainous Guildmaster, Putting on a Show for My Subordinates
That night.
I was walking through town delivering Eli to the inn.
"I'm sorry, I caused you trouble..."
The thugs who came to me were Eli's former party members.
They heard the rumors that Eli was getting stronger and came to forcefully take him back.
I drove them away.
As they left, they dropped a parting shot, "Remember this... You'll definitely regret it!"
"...I'm really no good. I finally got trained by the Guildmaster and I can even defeat a dragon now..."
Eli sobbed, *plop plop*.
"...Even though my magic talent bloomed, my heart is still weak. I'm sorry, I'm such a coward..."
I [confirmed] it and told Eli.
"You're a disappointment. I don't care about you anymore."
I left Eli behind and headed towards a deserted alley.
"Wait, Guildmaster... Don't leave me..."
After confirming that they were chasing after me, I entered the alley.
At that moment... *BAM!*
A thug hit me on the head with a club.
"Guildmaster!? A, You guys..."
Looking down at me as I fell was the group of thugs who had come to the Guild the other day.
"Well hello there, Eli. Long time no see."
The leader stepped on my face.
"W, What are you... doing...?"
"We came to get you. And... we wanted to thank the Guildmaster for the other day!"
*THUD!*
The leader kicked my stomach.
"You really did put on a good show earlier! HA!"
I was repeatedly kicked by the leader.
"S, Stop it! W, Why are you doing this?"
"Huh? There's no reason. I just felt like it."
"...That's... your reason?"
Eli squeals... and squeals.
Leaders signal their peers.
Turning over places with the thugs, the leader goes to Eli.
"Hey, Eli. I'm sorry for kicking you out. How about we go on an adventure together from now on?"
The leader drapes his arm over Eli's shoulder.
"N-no... I can't..."
"What? Can't hear you...!"
When he gives the signal, the thugs kick me repeatedly.
"Stop! Please stop..."
"Then say you want to join our party, and we'll help you out. So, what do you say?"
Eli bows his head with a gloomy expression.
He's frozen with fear.
"Eli."
I look up at him and say.
"Don't worry about me. You decide what to do. It's your life. But... make sure you don't have any regrets."
Eli looks into my eyes... and nods.
His eyes showed determination.
"Hah? What's this guy trying to be cool for? Hey, Eli, hurry up! If not, I'll take care of this weak Guildmaster!"
"...Let him go."
"What? What did you say?"
"I said let that person go!"
Eli quickly pulls out his staff and casts wind magic without saying a word.
A gust of wind blows, sending the thugs flying.
"Wha!? Y-you little punk, Eli, what are you doing!"
Eli points his staff menacingly at the leader.
"I'm... not going back to your party!"
"Damn it! Don't get cocky, you weakling...!"
The leader draws a knife from his waist and shows it off in front of Eli.
"This has poison on it, you know? Scary, right?"
"Yeah, it's scary! But... not being able to protect someone because I'm too scared is much scarier!"
Eli doesn't back down an inch in front of the knife.
"Ugh...! Damn it!"
"[Wind Shot]!"
Whoosh...!
Wind bullets are fired from the tip of the staff.
"Ughhhhhh!"
The leader is hit directly by the barrage of bullets and is sent flying.
"I'm not going to let fear win anymore...! I'm not going to be your puppet!"
"Guh, damn...! You guys, what are you waiting for? Kill the Guildmaster and him!"
The thugs draw their weapons and rush to attack.
"Ha ha ha! You fool, to underestimate me and neglect the important Guildmaster!"
"Who's the fool?"
Crash!
And the thugs all collapse at once.
SPLOSH!
"What!? What did you say!?"
With the fallen thugs by my side, I stand up.
