Volume 3 Chapter 9 ACT.45 Conspiracy's Shadow (IV)
"──This is poisoned."
At Noah's words, Rai froze.
He glanced at the sandwich he was about to eat.
"Could you let me check yours too?"
Saying that, Noah snatched the sandwich from Rai and held it in his left hand, fanning it with his right hand to sniff it.
He wore a serious expression for a bit, then looked up without changing his face.
"There's poison in this one too. I can smell a faint odd odor."
At those words, Rai was confused.
It wasn't because he didn't trust Noah's opinion.
Purge Knight, Noah Lowe.
He wasn't originally a Holy Knight of the Holy Church but belonged to a different department within the same church.
That department was called the Heretic Hunter division.
It specialized in researching and analyzing matters related to Reincarnators, serving as a technical support division for the Purge Knights.
Noah was a professional in pharmaceutical research──no doubt about it.
If he said there was poison mixed in, there was no doubt about that.
"*Where and who*?"
Yes, that's right.
There had been no chance to mix anything in after the purchase.
Since they were the ones holding it, that was a confirmed fact.
"It has to be that food stall owner."
If that's the case, there's no other possibility.
But that raised further questions.
Who that stall owner really was.
If they intentionally mixed something in, then their identity must be a Reincarnator (Black) or an accomplice (Gray).
It's possible there are other Reincarnators besides those 3.
If that's true, the number of suspects would suddenly skyrocket.
"This might be a more troublesome case than I imagined."
Just as Rai was about to nod silently at Noah's words, it happened.
CRASH!
With a loud noise, the room's window shattered, sending shards of glass raining down on Rai and Noah.
Startled by the sudden turn of events, Rai and Noah jumped from their chairs, dodging the falling glass shards.
At the same moment, each of them grabbed the weapons they had kept close by, staring out the window.
There stood a boy who could be found anywhere.
It seemed like he had thrown a stone or something inside.
The boy, sensing their gaze finding him, flashed a defiant smile and dashed into the alley.
"────Noah!"
"Got it!"
Not wanting to miss this chance, the two broke through the shattered window and chased after the boy.
That smile was definitely a move to lure out the two Purge Knights.
But even knowing that, they jumped right in.
If there was even a slight clue to break the situation, they would dive into a dangerous trap.
And with overwhelming strength, they would tear through that *trap head-on.*
This was the way only allowed for the Purge Knights.
