"Ugh, ugh..."
The next morning, Rai woke up with a terrible headache.
In a room in the town church, Rai slowly tries to get out of bed.
"Wa, water..."
Feeling thirsty, he reaches out, and a copper cup filled with water is gently handed to him.
"I figured this would happen, so I got some water for you."
It was Noah who handed Rai the water.
Rai gulps it down in one go and wipes his mouth with his sleeve.
Enduring the pounding headache that still echoes in his brain like a bell, Rai staggers to his feet and returns the cup to Noah.
"Ah, thanks Noah. By the way, what happened yesterday?"
Almost all of Rai's memories of last night were gone.
"I remember that the bearded man was saying something, but..."
Seeing Rai's uncertain state, Noah lets out a big sigh.
"Yesterday, we got to hear a lot from the old man who was bothering us, but then he said, 'You guys drink too,' and you tried to refuse, but the other guy wouldn't back down, and in the end──"
"──I drank it, huh?"
Purge Knight, Rai Conwell.
His biggest weakness was alcohol.
He can't handle alcohol at all, and gets knocked out even after a single drink.
"If you can't drink, you should've just refused, I think."
"W-Well, it was offered in good faith, so it was hard to refuse..."
"──Well, thanks to you passing out, we got away from the drunk guy quickly."
Saying that, Rai starts to change clothes, his face still pale.
"Dude, are you really gonna be okay like that?"
"I-I'm fine."
That's right, they were scheduled to meet the lord today.
"Speaking of which, did you contact the lord in advance or anything?"
"No, but what about it?"
"Do you think we'll even be able to see him?"
Lords are surprisingly busy.
There are some who just collect taxes and live a lazy life, but they are in the minority.
"No sweat. The Holy Church's Purge Knights wanna meet, and there's pretty much no way to say no. Besides, gotta go in without warning, ya know?"
──Yep, this is like, a surprise inspection.
Gotta find out if there's a connection with Reincarnators, and if there is, gotta get the dirt.
And, there's a hunch.
"The lord's been collecting livestock from vendors for some reason. ── But, there's no major exports from this territory."
Belta noticed this fishy stuff, so she sent Rai and the crew.
This territory ain't mentioned in the Saint's trust.
But, there's a chance it slipped through, and also──.
"It could be a clue to that Dragon King!"
The Purge Knights have pretty much hunted down all the Reincarnators in the trust.
There's this kid calling himself the Reincarnator King, leadin' a bunch of Reincarnators ── if he's got a crew, they're all Reincarnators that slipped through the cracks.
They don't even know how many slipped through, or where they're hiding.
But if the lord here is buddy-buddy with Reincarnators, then those Reincarnators are the ones that slipped through.
Then there's a chance they're connected to the Dragon King.
── This mission was a big deal, see?
