Volume 3 Chapter 19 ACT.55 The Destination of Grudge (I)
As Rai confirmed that the maid had lost consciousness, he felt assured that Noah Lowe had successfully captured the Reincarnator's main body according to their earlier plan.
Now, the next thing for him to do was──.
"N-no! H-help!?"
Eltor let out a scream as he caught sight of Rai turning around.
He tried to stumble backward, but his movements were shaky, as if he had lost all composure.
"Ha, ha, ha!"
The sight of Eltor crawling toward the exit looked utterly unbefitting of a noble.
To Rai, he resembled a frightened insect.
"When cornered, a villain always grovels pathetically."
Rai swiftly closed the distance, driving the sword's sheath into the ground to block Eltor's path.
He've cut off Eltor's escape route and crouched down, bringing his face closer.
Purge Knight Rai Conwell──no, the vengeful spirit Rai Conwell──peered into the eyes of the trembling middle-aged noble with his murky, deep purple gaze.
There was no glint of reason in those eyes; instead, a complex hatred writhed like something simmering at the bottom of a pot.
The overwhelming malice radiating from Rai's stare could no longer be expressed as mere hatred; it bordered on madness.
To him, the young knight before him felt less like a fellow human.
Eltor appeared far more monstrous than the Reincarnator he had been dealing with.
"Do you have any last words?"
The flat, emotionless words spilled from the monster's lips.
It was as if he couldn't even recognize Eltor as a fellow human.
There was nothing in his voice that suggested warmth meant for another person.
Eltor's teeth chattered from sheer terror.
Watching this, Rai felt disappointment creep in, though he kept his expression neutral.
Each and every one of them, driven by selfishness, trampled on others for their own sake.
The Reincarnators, armed with the cheat (special ability) that allowed them to disrupt order at will, crushed someone else's happiness and future without a second thought.
And there was Eltor, who had sought to ally with such Reincarnators to sip on the sweet spoils.
──Rai judged them to be no different from one another.
"H-help... help me..."
With slow, deliberate movements, Rai extended his right hand toward Eltor's neck.
He didn't hasn't any resistance left, so he thought he'd at least listen to his last words, but they held no value whatsoever.
Just begging for mercy was beneath contempt.
Better to end his life before such filth could taint my ears.
Just as Rai's hand brushed against his neck──
"──W-wait, just save my daughter!"
"────."
Rai's hand froze.
And in the next moment──
"You can't do this, senior!!"
Noah rushed into the half-destroyed office, desperately grabbing Rai's arm.
"You can't kill him!"
With Noah gripping his arm, Rai silently stepped away from Eltor.
He couldn't process the storm of emotions swirling inside him, instinctively pressing his open left hand against his face.
Beneath the helm, his expression twisted into a bitter grimace.
