"So you're the Reincarnator, Ishigami Shiro, huh? Sorry for the late confirmation."
When Reincarnator Ishigami Shiro awoke, a dagger was deeply lodged in his chest.
"──Ah, ugh!?"
Hidden behind a burner in the backyard of Eltor Manor, where he was hard to spot, he had been dragged out by another Purge Knight, already unconscious and fatally wounded.
That knight──Noah Lowe──peered into his awakened eyes, placing his bare hand, freed from its gauntlet, on his neck.
"Ah, you don't have to talk if it's too much. ────I can tell if I'm right by your pupils and pulse."
After observing him for a while, Noah retracted his hand from Shiro's neck.
"Yes, it's you. You're the Reincarnator."
Saying that, Noah gave the dagger stuck in Shiro's chest a cruel twist.
"Ah, aah, aahh!?!?"
The Reincarnator groaned in intense pain.
His life, a vivid red, flowed unchecked from the deliberately widened wound.
"Yeah, I'll apologize in advance. Since it seems your possession gets released when your original body takes damage, I'll make sure to kill you as painfully as possible."
Noah continued to thrust and withdraw the dagger, cruelly intensifying the pain for his already fatally wounded opponent.
This act wasn't due to Noah having a sadistic streak.
Noah was *being cautious*.
He was guarding against the possibility of being possessed and forced to kill himself in his last moments.
A person who has accepted death can do unpredictable things.
That's why Noah killed with thoroughness.
He killed to eliminate even the slightest chance of retaliation.
To prevent any unforeseen incidents.
"If I let my senior cause a big incident on purpose, you'd have no choice but to leave. And to grasp the situation yourself, you'd have to see it with your own eyes────that's what I thought."
RRRIP!
He relentlessly stabbed the chest, stimulating the pain receptors with each thrust.
"I guess you probably thought I wasn't in this mansion, but if something happens here, you're the one who has to come check it out, right?"
Noah pondered the risks.
If he were the Reincarnator, it would be better to stay away from the mansion as much as possible to avoid drawing attention from Lord Eltor.
The thinner the connection, the lower the chance of being discovered.
But then again, if something did happen on Eltor's side, he'd have to rush over and assess the situation himself.
What was going on inside the mansion?
If he didn't check and someone possessed him instead, it could lead to some very unpleasant situations.
"So, it's best to confirm things with your own eyes before possessing someone. When you do, your real body will be vulnerable, so you should hide nearby, right?"
If an incident occurred in the mansion and he actually confirmed it, then returned to town or a safe area to possess a maid, it would take too much time.
That's why Noah decided that in this case, he had to hide his body near the mansion.

Noah was in the middle of reporting back to the Reincarnator when he realized the guy had already kicked the bucket.
Calmly, Noah wiped the bloodied dagger on the Reincarnator's clothes and sheathed it.
"Well then, shall we hurry to Senior's side? If I'm not careful, I might accidentally kill Lord Eltor too. I really need to rein it in."
Noah left the body as it was, rising to his feet without a hint of emotion.
It was a demeanor you wouldn't expect from someone who had just killed a man.
"Ah, right."
Finally, he stopped as if he remembered something and turned back.
"Thanks for the drink the other night."
Noah offered his belated gratitude to the now-silent body──the man who had shared a drink with him on the night they first arrived.
