Volume 3 Chapter 16 ACT.52 Answer Comparison (III)
"And I realized something else, Lord Eltor. You weren't forced to cooperate with the Reincarnator, you chose to."
Eltor's spine chilled at Rai's words.
His gaze stayed locked on the Reincarnator before him, but terror froze his limbs.
Rai's words were dripping with hatred.
It was an outburst of emotion far beyond what a mere human, even a boy, should be capable of.
It was like molten lava, hot and thick with malice.
It was an overwhelming, vicious intent that wouldn't hesitate to use any means to settle a score – no, it was so intense, it wouldn't even hesitate to bring about its own destruction.
A hatred so potent, it would never be directed towards anyone in ordinary life.
Eltor was utterly paralyzed by the weight of that feeling.
Even if he could move, he couldn't run.
If he fled, what would become of this knight?
He couldn't comprehend it.
Something far beyond his imagination, something that would show him despair.
That's why, he couldn't allow it.
For Eltor, who had something more precious than his own life, the will to escape vanished in that instant.
"Tch."
The Reincarnator, witnessing Eltor's surrender, let out a snarl.
Just as they was about to consider the various options they had at their disposal,
──a sword tip sliced through the air, aimed straight at her brow.
"Whoa!"
Screaming, Reincarnator rolled to the side, narrowly dodging the attack.
But before they could recover, Rai slammed a forceful blow into their with his left hand shield.
Reincarnator instinctively raised their arms to defend herself, but the difference in strength and sheer mass between the lightly-clad girl and the armored Rai was immense.
The impact sent their flying, slamming against the wall before they could even regain their balance.
Thrown against the wall with such force that they couldn't even attempt a proper landing, Reincarnator was about to lose consciousness from the pain.
But,
"Ugh! Gah! Damn it!!"
With a Death God──Rai──right in front of him, he steeled himself, flinging the blunt object he'd been holding at Rai's feet.
Rai sidestepped the attack aimed at his legs, then narrowed his eyes, studying the Reincarnator as he closed the distance.
"Why aren't you running, in this situation?"
If it was a possession-type cheat──a special ability──they could just leave the girl's body and escape from Rai right now.
It'd be ridiculously easy to get away.
But they weren't doing it──no, they *couldn't*.
And this was despite the fact that they'd abandoned the body and fled during the previous attack.
Rai glanced, just for a moment, at Eltor, who was staring blankly in the corner of the room.
The reason they weren't running, and the reason the Reincarnator wouldn't, were probably the same.
"You're taking orders from someone, aren't you? Someone you're probably more afraid of betraying than you are of facing me right now."
